I would contend that the reason software figures have been lower for Switch 2 so far is that most of its first party releases to date have been second-tier IPs.

Pokemon Pokopia shows games can sell great on it.

It’s every game though. Pokopia is the only game so far to outperform expectations, meanwhile MTFever, Yoshi & the Mysterious Book, and even Air Riders are experienced a major drop compared to their NS1 versions (MTFever, Yoshi Crafted World, KirbySA). With DKBananza and TotK struggling to make much movement, and even MKWorld struggling to stay ahead of the 9yo MK8DX, the issue has more to do with NS1 software being just a tad bit too evergreen.

Switch 1 software was incredibly strong, yeah. But there's reasons for pretty much every case here, such as $70 being quite steep for a sports spinoff, Yoshi being quite unconventional, Air Riders being something of a cult game that's not the most approachable, DK having lost much of his IP power through a long absence, etc.

I wouldn't expect Switch 2 titles to necessarily match their predecessors, but I also don't think we can really write them off as wimpy just yet when we've had very few tentpole titles.

Ff7 the remake trilogy almost has nothing in comment with the OG ff7 that is miles and miles better then the"remake" trilogy.

Hopefullt nintendo doesnt do the same with the beloved zelda game.

I don't think that's true; there have been plenty of cases where a remake or remaster sells more than the original game.

Ocarina 2026 will be selling to a much larger base than the original, in an era where the IP itself has a lot more sway. A lot of the new audience who weren't around in 1998 will want to check it out based on its legendary reputation.

Exceeding 7.6m sales is a reasonable and achievable goal for Ocarina.  Exceeding 20m sales is a much more difficult feat.  That is almost 3x the amount.  Otter is talking like 20m+ sales are a given for Ocarina.  It is unreasonable to expect that.

There are a lot of "BotW only" type of Zelda fans out there now.  They showed up to buy Tears of the Kingdom, but the other Zelda games on the Switch didn't sell anywhere near those numbers.

Nope, I said "I could see it doing 20m LT". Nothing about 20m+ being a given.

You also have to look at the real numbers and extrapolate:

"but the other Zelda games on the Switch didn't sell anywhere near those numbers."

The only other mainline Zelda to release on Switch was Skyward Sword and it sold 4m. It is not a remake, it is literally a Wii game in HD. If that game sold 4m i think it's crazy talk to imagine a ground up, AAA remake of OOT which presents as more modern & expensive experience than BOTW only selling 7m. 10m is a given, unless something goes terribly wrong. Even then the movie would probably get it to 10m anyway

Without the open-world element of BotW, this Ocarina remake likely has a sales ceiling of around 15 million. I don't think we'll ever see another Zelda with sales similar to BotW; even TotK is currently selling less than BotW
