As has become tradition, this year's "Clash of the Titans" features two major releases competing for the crown of critical reception and commerical success. However unlike previous years, instead of pitting the big holiday exclusive from Sony (Marvel's Wolverine) against that from Nintendo, I have opted for a different (though arguably more fitting) match up: A battle between the hotly anticipated remakes of two 90's classics. Those games being Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII: Revelations and Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Though it may seem a tad bit early for such a comparison, given how little we have seen of each game, I believe it could be fun to get discussion started sooner rather than later. The mystery behind each title lends to a highly speculative start to discussion — this is a type of discussion, in my opinion, is always the most fun and entertaining to look back on.

I think Ocarina will take both. I dont know much about what the FF7R games have sold or reviewed like though.

I only care about Revelation, but probably Ocarina will win at least on sales. Critics should both be in the lower 90s.

2025 OpenCritic Prediction Leagues

Ocarina will wipe the floor with it sales wise. If it goes as far to be a reimagining, I could see it doing 20m LT.

Revelation will be massively lucky to hit 5m LT whereas I think Ocarina will sell that in its first 6 weeks on market.

Review wise its another story, I'd bet on Revelations. A more direct remake I think will see Ocarina perform in the high 80s whereas a reimagining should be in the 90s. Critics really loved Rebirth despite of its many flaws, so I'm sure they'll love revalations see it hit 90 at least.

I'll be picking both up. Revelation's I'll probably pick it up a year or so after it comes out on sale. Ocarina I'll probably get right away for Christmas.

Picking both day one, Revelations is clearly the superior game/project but ocarina will destroy it sales wise

Revelation has a lot of potential, but I am simply unable to bet against Ocarina.

Critical reception: I think OoT wins by a single point, 94 vs 93. But will need to see some OoT gameplay footage first, so not voting until then.

Sales: 💣 vs 🐥

If I recall correctly, Square Enix was initially a bit disappointed by the sales of Rebirth, so I'm going to go with OoT winning sales-wise. I'm also expecting Revelation to do only well in reviews, but since it's Nintendo we're talking about and the original is considered so good, I'd expect the new OoT to also get better reviews. This one I'm less sure about though, considering how good reviews Rebirth got.

No clue if Ocarina will be a 1:1 recreation or a reimagined, hard to say...

That said...
FF revelation is likely to be +90.

Reimagined OoT is a likely +90.

1:1 OoT is not +90... Sorry, the game aged like milk! At best high 80's. (With a big nostalgia bonus).

I think Ninty will choose to go 1:1. So yeah, FF VII takes the cake.
