Nah; even if the console cost between $1,000 and $1,500, I think they would sell at least 100 million, but the shareholders will consider this numbers lower than expected... I mean, MUCH lower.

A $1000 console would be lucky to sell 30m, especially with PS5 already having a strong userbase people would simply not upgrade. Gaming is an extremely casual hobby for many, I think you'll be shocked by how many people would comfortably skip a generation if it doesn't excite them. That would only be compounded by the fact that Developers will simply follow where the userbase is and keep supporting PS5

I'll never pay $1000 on a console, even because my main platform is PC, but some peoples dont like PC, so sadly I think they will pay this price.

30million is still a lot of people and would put PS6 alongside other consoles like N64 which had a very core, memorable userbase. $1000 would drive adoption to the niche of the most dedicated or those of high disposable income. PS6 would essentially operate like a "Pro" console on steroids. It simply wouldn't be seen as an essential purchase or the future of gaming. Even Sony probably wouldn't dare release a genuine exclusive for it (unless it's a small tech demo type game).

I'm exclusively a console gamer and I simply wouldn't get it unless it was on some sort of deal for $600-700. And this is coming from someone who doesn't care massively about the digital only nature of it.

The late Gen-Z and early Gen Alpha kids will be moving on from Playstation 5 to play on their smartphones and tablets. A $1000 system is not going to be something they can afford. The people that can afford a $1000 system and are not into PC gaming are hardcore physical gamers. But Sony just pissed them all off so good luck getting sales from them either.

The more than 90 million PlayStation 5 users aren't simply going to disappear and switch to other platforms that are also facing price hikes.

PS5 users will simply stick with the PS5. Once prices normalize, most will move on to the PS6. PCs lack the convenience and pricing of consoles. Nintendo doesn't have PlayStation games; it caters to a different niche.

This is all an exaggeration. Maybe Playstation fails to reach 100M, but it certainly will not do under 50M. Playstation worst moment was with PS3, and they still managed to nail +80m!!

For PlayStation to sell fewer than 50 million units, there would need to be a "catastrophe" in the gaming market—something that would likely severely affect Nintendo and PC as well.

50m is pretty much guaranteed for a Playstation home console just like Nintendo's handheld. Switch 2 is Nintendo's most expensive console and that is one of the fastest selling consoles ever. We are underestimating how loyal the playstation and Nintendo's fanbases are

Well... RAM/NAND crisis is a catastrophe that will affect everyone. There will be no thirst for an expensive digital-only PS6 with an entire generation of crossgen games. When the PS5 launched, prices were excellent, hype levels were crazy as people were still craving and expecting that familiar "generational wow" to arrive at some point (Demon's Souls and Rift Apart looked promising for starters). Next gen will have no hype whatsoever. It'll be expensive, digital-only, no exclusives, and hardly any games that aren't crossgen. Unless its price goes down over the years like the good old days, PS6 will be treated like a midgen upgrade.

Yeah I think enthusiast/"core" folks like us tend to overestimate the percentage of the market we constitute.

The vast majority of customers are more fairweather/casual peeps who will have little interest in a $1000 console.

The PS6 won't be a WIIU or PSVita failure but it can be a Xbox One failure. Are people willing to pay 700$ for a handheld that will perform worse then the main PS6? Are people willing to pay 900$ for a home console? People who saw physical as a bonus might go to Steam and people who saw physical as very important might go to Switch 2. Maybe even Xbox can take a little crack from PS sales.

I hope it sells less than 10 million. Same for Xbox.

Watch me. I'm not buying a PS6 or Vibe coded Xbox. My friend also sold his consoles and not buying the next gen systems. People will just go PC.
