PS5 users will simply stick with the PS5. Once prices normalize, most will move on to the PS6. PCs lack the convenience and pricing of consoles. Nintendo doesn't have PlayStation games; it caters to a different niche.

This is all an exaggeration. Maybe Playstation fails to reach 100M, but it certainly will not do under 50M. Playstation worst moment was with PS3, and they still managed to nail +80m!!

For PlayStation to sell fewer than 50 million units, there would need to be a "catastrophe" in the gaming market—something that would likely severely affect Nintendo and PC as well.

Well... RAM/NAND crisis is a catastrophe that will affect everyone. There will be no thirst for an expensive digital-only PS6 with an entire generation of crossgen games. When the PS5 launched, prices were excellent, hype levels were crazy as people were still craving and expecting that familiar "generational wow" to arrive at some point (Demon's Souls and Rift Apart looked promising for starters). Next gen will have no hype whatsoever. It'll be expensive, digital-only, no exclusives, and hardly any games that aren't crossgen. Unless its price goes down over the years like the good old days, PS6 will be treated like a midgen upgrade.
