Which was better? (and tell us why!)

The 2000s 32 82.05%

The 2010s 7 17.95%

Total:39

I’d go with 2000s, though I speak almost entirely from the perspective of Nintendo. As for the rest of the industry? Honestly the 2010s, while solid, definitely were a bit of a lull period when compared to 2000s and 2020s. Indies hadn’t yet reached much of their potential, Nintendo hadn’t fully combined their handheld-home software divisions, many devs were struggling to juggle the transition from PS3/XB360 to PS4/XBOne, etc.

00's. The peak of civilization was the decade leading up to and into the late 00's and I'm not saying that out of nostalgia, things started getting worse after 2008 for many reasons. I'm sure people from some countries will see this differently but at least in the west, it was peak humanity.

The games in the 2000s were definitely better and more exciting, yet the 2010s re-introduced VR which is all I'm playing nowadays. For tech innovation, 2010s, I just wish VR could reach the game quality of the 2000s, it's not even close.

Well, I've played many more games from the 2000s than the 2010s, but I can list a few of my "top of the list":

2000s - Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Sonic and the Black Knight, Dead Space, Mario Kart Wii, God of War II, Namco X Capcom, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Silent Hill 2.

2010s - Alan Wake, Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil VII, Rayman Legends, Super Mario 3D World, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,

But when you consider all of the "Good" games, I think the 2000s are on an advantage for me.

The 2010s had a ton of great games for me; Mario Galaxy 2, BOTW, Bayonetta 2, TLOU, Witcher 3, Doom 2016, Bioshock Infinite, Tropical Freeze, Gears 3, Nier Automata, Mario Odyssey, Mass Effect 2, Halo Reach, Titanfall 2, Uncharted 3 + 4, Mario Kart 8, Xenoblade Chronicles, Portal 2, Hellblade, Wolfenstein The New Order, Alien Isolation...

Having said that, the 2000s also boast quite a few masterpieces. For me it's pretty close.

What’s interesting to me is how so many games you have listed here are sequels to OG releases from the 00s. Not to discredit sequels, in fact I’d say most (if not all) of these examples are distinct enough from their predecessor to be viewed independently, but point still stands.

That said: Both 2000s and 2010s were solid for gaming. We really have yet to see a period in gaming where the games just never show up.

Probably the 2000s for me as well. RE4, Eternal Darkness, Fallout 3, Wind Waker, Punch-Out!! Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, Call Of Duty 4, Guitar Hero etc...

Both decades were great though.

2010's for sure. Cause i can play all great 2000's games and more. The future is better, 2020's will be even better than 2010's.

2000s for me, mostly due to the greatness of the first half of the decade. In my mind, video game art and design peaked between 1991 and 2005, with the years between 2000 and 2005 being the zenith. Everyone was firing on all cylinders during this time: Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, even Sega for a couple years.

The early seventh gen was also really great. Just look at 2007 alone: Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, BioShock, Halo 3, God of War II, Call of Duty 4.

The 2010s delivered many, many terrific games, but can't compete. Xbox started going downhill around 2011 and has never recovered. Wii ran out of steam around the same time, before taking a big step back with WiiU. PlayStation remained a great platform for third-party games, both multi-platform and exclusive, but its first-party offerings paled in comparison to the PS2 days. "AAA" gaming in general got worse. That said, indie games became better and more common during this time. Developers like Atlus, Platinum, Capcom, From Software, and Nihon Falcom continued to turn out spectacular titles. And Nintendo roared back to life in 2017. I just don't think it's enough to top 2000-2009.

True, though by the same token a lot of the 2000s best games were also continuations of series from the 80s/90s like Mario, Metroid, Resident Evil, etc.

2010s did have some great new IPs as well like Splatoon, Hellblade, TLOU, Horizon, Xenoblade, etc.
