Stylish action games and Sci Fi TPS games are for me. From Ninja Gaiden,Metal Gear Rising, DMC series,Bayonetta, Astral Chain, Shinobi PS2,Nightshade, Bujingai, Hi Fi Rush and many many more like that.

I also just love Sci FI TPS games at any time.  VanQuish,Binary Domain. Gears of War, Gungrave,Ghost in the Shell PS1/PS2 Space Marine and more.

I love many genres and many kinds of series but these two are what I am a junkie for. I can always pop those in and have fun where most other things I need to be in the mood for. Even one of my most beloved genres. Shmups. I need to be in the mood. Even Mech action games which I love. The mood needs to be there. Same for RPGs,Twin stick,Beat em ups,Point and clicks,Racing and a bunch of others. Mood has to be there first.

I hope people can understand what I am asking for here.

You haven't really asked a question anywhere in your OP, though. I assume you're looking for more of these types of games?

I personally haven't gotten around to playing any of the popular ones like Balatro or Vampire Survivors yet, but that will likely change when Gambit releases, which looks to do for chess what Balatro did for poker.

I like emulating old arcade Beatles ups. Unlimited continues, short, simple controls. Good way to pass an hour.

I've basically 100%'d Vampire Survivors and am slowly playing through Ball X Pit. I also enjoy incremental games that require zero brainpower. Sometimes it is nice to play something that doesn't require much effort.

I don't have any experience with such games, but I'd like to mention that if you want something easy to learn and pick up even for short sessions, try a rhythm game. My pick is osu. The thing with rhythm games seems to be that they're kind of the opposite of dopamine: 95-99% of the time you'll feel bad because you keep making mistakes, then that 1% of the time you'll feel great when you succeed, but the feeling goes away fast. Can be strangely fun and relaxing though, despite the constant feeling of not doing well. All the top players seem to think they suck too, so it never gets better either.

I never even heard of Ball X Pit. I can tell you one of the best twin stick games I ever played and is a pure thrill is Nex Machina from Housemarque. Eugene Jarvis consulted on it. You only get to fight the final boss if legit good at the game. A lot of enemies come at you at once while at the same time you need to save a set amount of humans. Secrets to unlock in the stages (like bonus levels or extra humans/weapons)  You do get temp buffs. Temp upgrades. One of my fave PS4 games also on PS5.

Edit. I looked at a couple screenshots of Ball X Pit. Just looks like Araknoid. Old arcade game. So you can try that. There is a million versions of it.

This style of game is one I desperately want to understand the appeal of. What does it for you, Legit? Put it into words. Or how did you get glued initially?

Another way to put it, cause there is gameplay with these is these games start off where you can't beat them but you progress, fine tune and unlock stuff and use a small bit of brain power to combine upgrades. They do bottle neck and get difficult but the goal is to overcome that difficulty with the end goal that you don't really need to play the game and by then it's got you invested so that not playing the game is tremendous fun. It's like diablo without having to skip the story bits or constantly inventory dumping.

Now, ball X pit takes it a bit too far in having a late game character that litterally plays the game while you're AFK. But millions of people love Diablo and these have refined the formula to it's base attraction.

Oh, I never thought of Rythym games. Great idea 👍

Does Hades qualify? Game is hard, but short quick runs and loads of fun.
