Forums - Nintendo - Starfox, a reimagining of Starfox 64, out now on Switch 2

Having played the first few missions... This is exactly what you would expect it to be (at least in terms of the campaign mode). It is a very well done remake of StarFox 64 with a lot of polish. If that's what you're looking for, you will be undoubtedly satisfied.

I'm having fun but kind of wish it added some new wrinkles. Like... You know, Star Fox Zero. Screw the haters.

Okay, having played a lot more now, holy moly this is terrific.

The new cutscenes, the new orchestrated tracks, the visuals, it's clear a huge amount of effort went into making this the best it could be; Nintendo is evidently very serious about relaunching Starfox as a series, and I really hope it pays off.

Whether you played the original game or not, I'd highly recommend this to any Nintendo fan, or any fan of arcade style action games.

My only issue is that mapping the laser to A and bombs to Y does make using charged bombs more awkward than it needs to be, but that's a minor issue compared to all the game gets right.

Use the pro controller's underside buttons to map the bomb button better.

Also I'm enjoying it so far. The challenge missions are brutal sometimes. Never knew you could kill the mech boss on the first level in 10 seconds.

I don't really have an issue with this. When you charge your laser and lock on, it doesn't fire upon release, you have to press a again. So, you let go of A and hit Y. The window is long enough that it isn't too bad. But if you need to remap, L and R probably aren't doing much I set the pro controller buttons to boost and brake.

Man I am rusty; when I was a kid I knew the whole game so well I would almost never get hit and rack up scores well over 1000 every run.

Now, with that old muscle memory having atrophied over time (and no longer directly applicable due to subtle changes and a different controller) I'm taking hits all the time and scoring like 600-800 lmao. Haven't died yet at least.

Still great fun though.

So are there any gyro controls? I heard that if you hit minus it at least allows you to go into cockpit mode without using the mouse function?

There are mouse controls, yes, and they work quite well. No gyro option at present though.

amazon botched my preorder, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow. Man. Would've been the perfect day today to play it. Hope you guys are having fun!

Ah that sucks man, hope the wait is worth it for you!

I am having a blast thanks, it's a great blend of childhood nostalgia but also feeling like a very modern and polished game.

Did you play the N64 one growing up too?

Thanks, Curl! Great to hear you like the game. Yes, I unlocked everything as a child back on N64. Got all medals on expert difficulty. Star Fox 64 is one of my most favorite games of all time.

The game needs N64 controller support and Gyro. I would buy an N64 controller on Switch just for that alone. And I do mean for that alone, because I have an actual N64 RGB modded for N64 games. Nintendo Online's emulation is not for me.

It's one of my all time favourites as well! I never did manage to get every medal though, I remember there were like 1 or 2 levels I could never quite ace.

If you loved the 64 game you'll probably love this, it's a very faithful and respectful reimagining but also one that modernises the experience, in a good way.

1 hour of gameplay for 60 bucks?? Insane, is their any unlockables? Soo you want to keep replaying it?
