Forums - Nintendo - Starfox, a reimagining of Starfox 64, out now on Switch 2

I already politely messaged one of the devs about Gyro lol

It's been an established norm with Nintendo games for a generation now, we don't need to try and pretend that mouse controls replace it and I'd go a step further and say mouse controls are mostly a gimmick and do not fit transitional play where gyro sits alongside dual stick input as well as pro and joycon use.

Yeah gyro was never the issue with Starfox Zero, it was the horrible decision to split play across two viewpoints on two different screens that made the game a chore to play.

Cool poster for the game from Ninty

Why am I so hyped for this? lol I've played the demo three times already. Just one week to go.

I've been super tempted to try the demo, but I'm holding off so actually playing it on release for the first time feels more special.

Great show, used to watch it every Thursday night when I was a kid in the 90s.

Just got my copy home and played the first level + training!

Really loving it so far! Starfox SNES and 64 were my childhood, so seeing the team and the series brought to life with so much care respect and attention to detail is fantastic.

It runs silky smooth, looks beautiful, plays well, (though I did need to unlearn some muscle memory from 64/SNES) and you can tell an immense amount of love and care went into it.

Can't wait to play more if it after work tonight!

Anybody else picking it up today/tomorrow?

I hope I get mine tomorrow. Bought it online, so it might be a day late. Excited to play it either way though.

Okay, having played a lot more now, holy moly this is terrific.

The new cutscenes, the new orchestrated tracks, the visuals, it's clear a huge amount of effort went into making this the best it could be; Nintendo is evidently very serious about relaunching Starfox as a series, and I really hope it pays off.

Whether you played the original game or not, I'd highly recommend this to any Nintendo fan, or any fan of arcade style action games.

My only issue is that mapping the laser to A and bombs to Y does make using charged bombs more awkward than it needs to be, but that's a minor issue compared to all the game gets right.

Use the pro controller's underside buttons to map the bomb button better.

Also I'm enjoying it so far. The challenge missions are brutal sometimes. Never knew you could kill the mech boss on the first level in 10 seconds.
