There's two games that I can think off that I loved but were generally poorly received:

Shadow of Memories(/Destiny)
This is the Police

I was going to log in for the first time in a while especially to talk about Shadow of memories ! I'll add Extermination on ps2.

I remember having a fairly fun time playing E.T. when I was 7.  (No I am not kidding.)  I played it enough to beat the game several times.

For me, there are a few that come to mind: Barnyard (GCN), Backyard Baseball ‘09 (Wii), and Ben 10: Protector of the Earth (Wii). These were like my favorite games of all time growing up! Finding out these were all so critically panned (especially Backyard Baseball, which sits at a 37MC… I reaaally loved that game) really caught me by surprise.

What about you?

No way!

The GameCube versions of the Sonic Adventure games got some mixed to harsh reviews, far from universal praise.
I never played them on Dreamcast, but I enjoyed the GCN versions and their future ports as a kid and now.

Perfect Dark on the gameboy colour. I thought that was amazing but I had not played perfect dark before.

That game is kind of objectively amazing. Might not be the best game or anything like that, but it did things no other game did on the game boy color.

As a huge Godzilla nerd, I played the shit out of Godzilla Save the Earth on the OG Xbox when I was in high school; later I read that it got mixed reviews. I mean, it's clearly no masterpiece, but when you're a 15 year old fan, there was no more fun way to spend an afternoon with mates, except maybe the FPS multiplayer in Banjo Tooie. (Which was basically G-rated Goldeneye, as we weren't allowed games with realistic guns or violence in our household)

Afrika on ps3. I loved it and still think it's great. I loved the thrill and discovery of finding new animals and capturing challenges, and the amazing models used/graphics for its time.

Lunar Dragon Song on the DS

I played that some years back and thought it was one of worst JRPGs of the tens I've played.

I never understood the critic reviews for the Digimon World games.

DMW2 looked boring as f so I can understand that.

But DMW was so unique and loved by most people that played it and DMW3 is still the best Pokémon ever, it beat Pokémon on its own style of game, and people love it too. Those games scoring as low as the 40s is criminal.

I tried Digimon World 1&2 (loving the anime), but couldn't get into them, I thought the system was frustrating.

My childhood (and still) Master System favorites are mostly highly thought of. However the first two sports games I had, Slap Shot and Tennis Ace have some weaker reviews. Slap Shot is blamed as mere clone of Nes hockey games and Master System's other tennis games like Wimbledon get higher scores.

Slap Shot I can understand that it's what I'm used to and personal nostalgia; but I still enjoy the game once a year, after decades. On the other hand, Tennis Ace has perfected gameplay if simple graphics and having tried others on emulator, I still claim it's by far best of its kind. I'm just considering starting replaying the whole tournament mode for fifth or sixth time.
