For me, there are a few that come to mind: Barnyard (GCN), Backyard Baseball ‘09 (Wii), and Ben 10: Protector of the Earth (Wii). These were like my favorite games of all time growing up! Finding out these were all so critically panned (especially Backyard Baseball, which sits at a 37MC… I reaaally loved that game) really caught me by surprise.

What about you?

I feel like there will be a lot of licensed games lol. First one that comes to mind is Emperor's New Groove on PS1. To this day, I'll occasionally replay it lol fully understanding that as a game, it's not that good.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Sonic Heroes. Used to like it as a kid, never expected it to be rated in the 60s

I don't go back and play too many games, but I can't think of a game I went back to that I really enjoyed and didn't like it when I tried to play it again. Sometimes with games like GoldenEye on the Switch, it's mostly because using the Switch pro controller just isn't the same as using the old school N64 controller.

The Mask (SNES)

Pokemon Snap (N64) - At least in my country (Brazil), every time you went to Blockbuster you could never find Pokémon Stadium, so you rented a Pokémon game (Pokémon Snap) and when you went to play it, you discovered that it was different from what you expected (for the worse).

Jackie Chan Stuntmaster (PS1)

Digimon World (PS1)

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

The Sims 2 (GC) - The console version was significantly worse than the PC version

The Urbz Sims in the City, with Black Eyed Peas (GC)

Disaster Report (PS2) - I played a lot at my friend house

Dragon Ball Origins (NDS)

Tibia (PC)

Neopets (PC)

Dragon Ball Online (PC)

I liked Breath of Fire V (Dragon Quarter) quite a lot. Later on I discovered it had mid reviews and the fandom in particular really didnt like it cause it was very diferent from previous games in the franchise. Which yeah, its true, but back in the day i did enjoy its more bleak and mature tone. And tbh it felt quite challenging, i liked it a lot. It felt diferent.

The first "important" game I ever got to purchase was Ninja Gaiden 2. It was something I played so so much without understanding anything at all from the plot (had a Japanese copy lol) and could absolutely do any major stunt with just one hand, if necessary. Then later on I would find it had no way similar a following as the original game, and it took me an even longer while to understand why.

The Emepror's New Groove on PS1 is amazing. One of my favorite 3D platform games. I played it on PC back in the late 2000s with PT-BR voice acting. Such a cool experience.

From my mind, I can think of Raiden Trad (SNES). I loved to play it with my mom when I was a kid. We beat it many times. It was a shame that I found out that a lot of people bashes this game.

Tokyo extreme racer 3.. I am not a car fan but that game was extremely fun. didnt realized it reviewed in the 60s.
