Games that you loved growing up, but later learned weren’t as fondly viewed?

The first "important" game I ever got to purchase was Ninja Gaiden 2. It was something I played so so much without understanding anything at all from the plot (had a Japanese copy lol) and could absolutely do any major stunt with just one hand, if necessary. Then later on I would find it had no way similar a following as the original game, and it took me an even longer while to understand why.
