Forums - Gaming - Good games in 2025 that flew under the radar

Tagged games:

One of my favourite games of the year was Night Striker Gear, a sequel to a 1988 arcade game that's a ridiculously fun blast from the past; simple to pick up and play but challenging to master.
Also, while it initially released on PC in 2023, this year also saw the console release of Turbo Overkill, which for my money is one of the best FPS games of the decade so far:

Kirby Air Riders flew a little bit under the radar. It's a huge improvement over the original; More varied game modes, somewhat easier gameplay, and a lot more playable characters instead of mostly just different colored Kirbies.

The Midnight Walk.

After its initial reveal Sony didn't spotlighht it in any future state of plays if I recall correctly. It's reviews were quite mid because the gameplay is ultimately a bit weak but the world, art and story was enough to make it one of the few games I completed this year. And it's legitimately scary. It should of sweeped art categories in most awards imo

Well, it got at least some recognition: it won the Steam VR Game of the Year Award.

Yeah, it also won the same cateogory for the game awards. I didn't play it in VR but I can image that would make it even more enjoyable

Lunar HD Collection. Suikoden HD collection. Some fantastic classic RPGs that hold up but I just never saw anyone mention them. Look at eBay prices for the originals. It's a fantastic deal to get them in a collection like that.

Raidou. Like anything not named Persona in the SMT series. Everything else gets overlooked. TBH I like Persona a lot but it's not even the best SMT series has to offer. Not saying Raidou is the peak of the series but it is fantastic. It's a ARPG spinoff. You do some detective work and like any RPG go through dungeons. The story is interesting. The setting of 1920s Japan is cool. The revamped gameplay is really good.

I had all of these. I started a thread for Lunar, which is one of my all time favorite games, but it didn't gain any traction.

The first game that comes to mind is Shujinkou. It's a unique turn-based RPG with an inventive syllable-based fighting mechanics that teaches you to read Japanese as you play. I consider it one of the best games of 2025, but it definitely went under the radar.

Majogami from Inti Creates is another one. It's a stylish, beautiful action-platformer that didn't get a whole lot of attention.

Always wanted to play Might Striker but the prices were nuts. For some reason I thought Turbo Overkill was late 2024 on consoles. I loved it until the game broke but then they patched it and loved it again. One of my fave FPS in that style.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Keepers toll and KARMA the dark world. Keepers Toll is a hidden gem. KARMA is just a good visual novel.

It had some issues (and missing features) at launch that really hurt its review score, but if you've been craving more Advance Wars, Warside (PC) is a great option.
