One of my favourite games of the year was Night Striker Gear, a sequel to a 1988 arcade game that's a ridiculously fun blast from the past; simple to pick up and play but challenging to master.
Also, while it initially released on PC in 2023, this year also saw the console release of Turbo Overkill, which for my money is one of the best FPS games of the decade so far:
