Ive got my gens a bit mixed up at this point, are Switch 2 and PS5 - XboxSeriesX considered in the same gen?

A lot of people think gens are about power and not what they are actually about: succession. So yes, there are people who think the Switch 1 is the same generation as the Wii-U lol

In the case of the Switch, going by succession alone doesn't make sense because it succeeds both Wii U and 3DS. In many ways it probably should be considered first generation of its form-factor.

There is no easy answer. Probably the best is a dual generation, and that's messy enough.

PC MASTER RACE BABY!

Let me just look up the prices of the current graphics cards...hard pass.

absolutely not. unless its switch 2. because with switch 2 you know a bunch of good games are coming whereas with ps5, they have had 5 years to show the games, and its been underwhelming. definitely more than what i can say for series x, but still, not nearly enough to instill confidence. might as well just play ps4, hell i would take a 360 over the series x.

Depends.

For the more casual player, a PS4 is probably enough for you, as it still gets significant releases now and then.

For the enthusiast, there are a number of really good games that are current gen only like say Stellar Blade, Split Fiction, Kunitsu-gami, etc.

Granted, I would say this gen is underwhelming so far in terms of the number of exclusives, due to economic factors extending the crossgen period way beyond the usual term, but there's still some good stuff that you just can't get on a PS4 or an Xbox One.

On the Nintendo side, it's still very early days for Switch 2, but I would say if you're a fan of say the Mario Kart or Donkey Kong series, then it's worth jumping in for those alone. Ordinarily I'd say if you want a broader range of titles then maybe wait a while, but these days you're probably better off buying now just cos the price will probably be raised at some point in the future.

As someone that doesn't own a 9th gen console yet but does own a capable enough PC, absolutely not. I'm increasingly unhappy about the prices, especially when I can probably get the games I care about on PC simply by waiting for a while. Nintendo is the exception, but I have too little experience with Nintendo yet to care beyond some curiosity. That might change eventually, but until my backlog permits me to get more familiar with Nintendo, that'll have to wait.

No but I consider them to be. I think the Switch is an 8th gen console and no argument can be made but one for a technicality.

This.  PC has MS, Sony, third party, free online, cheaper games, better sales, no generations and emulation.

And a 5060ti is $250 and matches a ps5.  For $500 a 5070 beats out the Pro.

5060Ti (and 9060XT) kicks the living shit out of PS5 and it's about where PS5 Pro is.

That said, 9060XT is $380, 5060Ti more than that.

$380 isn't bad.  The Pro is what $800?  Plus $80 a year for online?

Yeah, going PC will probably be the route the many will take. Still, consoles will always have that "optimized for specific hardware" type of thing that PCs don't, and that, and ease of use, appeals to a lot of people.

That said, with Sony offering in next gen PS6 and PSP6, most likely playing same games, I don't see many PS folks migrating to PC.

And if Steam ends up on NextBox/PS6, you might have it the other way around, some of PC gamers switching to consoles.
