First party wise it had a strong start but since 2023 has been weak in that regard. Other than that though it's easily the best Playstation has ever been since with multiplatform development becoming the norm it's getting more games than ever including even Xbox ones now. Unless someone still has the outdated notion that a game doesn't count unless it's exclusive then there's never been a better time to game on any of the major platforms.

Good to Very Good, up until now. (Voted on Good)

Playstation usually get its best games during the later years of the console, so it probably will end up amazing as well.

I expect it to be a bit behind the PS4 to me, when the PS6 comes, which is excellent.
Nothing is ever reaching the PS2, much less the PS1, so that is pretty much the best case scenario.

8.
It's a near-perfect souped up PS4 in function. The PS5 versions of games are where I've been a bit disappointed in first-party output. The prices are getting ridiculous in some spots too for services, controllers, and some games.
Add in another few banger first-party games and it will probably get bumped up to 9.
Sony simply is going for a cross-gen approach now and less new first-party titles especially exclusives. The divide between each console's library and PC is shrinking. You don't have to like it, but that's how it is.

Great. I have done so much gaming I had to take a break from it. For the first time in a long time last year I was playing PS5 almost as much as PC. This year's JRPG release schedule has been a bit lax though. Where's DQ12 or Persona 6?

I bought mine like 3 years ago on a whim because they happened to have one at Target and they were still hard to find. I played, loved, and beat Elden Ring.

Then I played ghosts of tsushima and couldn't get into it.

Then I tried the last of us part 2 and couldn't get into it.

Then I played God of War and enjoyed it for like 10-15 hours before getting bored.

I tried a few other games after that and it was the same thing, just nothing was keeping my interest. I still have ff16 in an unopened case that I'll try eventually, but the system has been a disappointment for me.

I thought after skipping the ps4 that I'd have a near endless supply of games to play, but I think (sadly) my love for their brand of story driven games died with the ps3.

Anyway, I gave it a 6.

Amazing platform for quality gaming, just a lack of generation defining experiences. But honestly I've never had as much as a backlog to get through as I've had on the PS5... Quite a few are PS4 remasters/ports but still. For sure though, I'm missing the golden years of PS4 where every year had a new all time favourite game.

So far my favourite games of the generation are Guardians of the Galaxy and Astrobot. Closely followed by God of War Ragnorok, FInal Fantasy XVI and VII Rebirth. All the latter left me a bit dissapointed but were undeniably great experiences.

I’d give it an 5. Unless you’re exclusively a PS player, there isn’t much reason to stick to the platform. Outside of Astro Bot, everything I’ve wanted to play throughout the generation has since been ported to PC or released on PC day one.

My PS5 has turned into a glorified PS4 lately. Mainly playing Wipeout: Omega Collection, Shadow of the Colossus remake, and both Gravity Rush games. Console wise, it’s a great piece of tech, but software side has been very weak overall.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Between good and very good for me at the moment. It is by far my most used system to play games at the moment, and has been for a long time. It doesn't quite have the number of excellent exclusive titles that previous PlayStation consoles had, but I think that's more than made up by the third party releases, as well as the ability to play pretty much all PS4 games on it. Could be better, but overall I'm quite satisfied with it. Maybe a 7 for now, can become an 8 with one or two high quality exclusive releases.

I think it goes deeper than that. It's not only about all games available on PC, but also being more expensive and less convidative than on PCs. PCs were always better value than consoles in any given time, but now that difference is even more pronounced

The only reason why consoles still a thing is culture I guess

PS5 when released was good value (great tec and inexpensive), but after few years is a bit overpriced for what it offers. Problem is when released there were few games that really looked next gen. While those games are definitely coming eventually, it means your PS5 was essentially a "PS4 2.0" until those games

Nintendo "solved" this by tricking their customers, read: Not releasing their games on base Switch even when they clearly are Switch 1 games. I think Nintendo is more concerned with hardware sales than software

Sony however want to maximize software profits as results games like Horizon FW were released on PS4. Have Sony kept all their first party on PS5 the perception could have changed a bit

For PS6 all Sony games need to be exclusive, and they will need to release more A/AA games too. Even if they don't sell a lot, game that can break even for 1-2 million are fine
