Yeah, its a double edged sword type of deal.

TruckOSaurus said: Well, I'm not jumping for joy at that idea of paying more for games but it's not that big a deal either. It's quite surprising that video games have been immune to inflation for so long really. |
They really haven't been immune. They have just been charging you in other ways. Micro transactions, dlc, ultimate editions, putting launches behind a paywall, subscriptions, digital downloads. To be fair to nintendo, they don't actually tend to put micro transactions in full priced games, or have ultimate editions, or put launches behind a paywall. But they also have way lower development costs compared to a lot of other big developers.

If Cyberpunk 2077 with all it's DLC can fit on the 64GB cart, there can't be more than a handful of games that can't with enough compression. They're just cheap. |
And for them is simply all about not cutting into their profit margins I believe.
I don't think the game has its official price point but it's likely in the 70-80$ range.
The new cartridges used are likely more onerous than the one made for the OG Switch due to the faster reading/loading speeds.
I absolutely agree about what you said however, these companies could absolutely do as Cyberprojekt did with this port but realistically, we've seen what happened with third parties during the last few years, if there's a cheaper options like the download codes in a box. They will take it.

I heard that the Switch 2 cartridges dont come in many sizes. Just like 1-2GB and 64GB. Anyone know anything about that?

Where did you hear that?
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Macronix is offering 1GB all the way up to 64GB with powers of 8 sizes in between.
It's a refinement of the Switch cart (XtraROM) technology, but will leverage 3D NAND for extra capacity.
Some carts will be just a license key and no data on it, requiring a download.
And some carts will be just the Switch 1 version with a Switch 2 upgrade key code in the box.
Developers are also free to use the current Switch cart technology for the Switch 2 and make it exclusive to Switch 2, it's backwards and forwards compatible.
Thus a 1GB Switch 1 cart will be cheaper than a 1GB Switch 2 cart to manufacture as the NAND is simpler, slower and easier to manufacture... So if you are not leveraging lots of data streaming from storage, Switch 1 carts will be the choice for many developers. Think: Indie and casual games.
Consequently... Because Switch 1, 2 and 3DS carts use NAND in their carts, they are prone to possible data loss, the error correction Nintendo deploys isn't 100% fool proof.
The best way to preserve your games is to occasionally leave a cart in your system so the system will activate the NAND refresh cycle.

That's pretty much what I expected. At least the guy admits that he heard it from someone who had heard it from someone who in turn had heard it from someone who had heard it from someone.
The original source was probably a Square-Enix apologist who wanted to justify why Bravely Default doesn't come on a game card. "Oh, it's Nintendo's fault, because the only choice they are giving S-E here is an expensive 64 GB card." That's how this kind of bullshit starts.

Well it would explain the high prices of 80 dollars if they have to use a 64GB cart.
$70 should be the cap and it should be relatively rare, even for Nintendo titles.
The third-party games shown are pretty fairly priced.
For how old BOTW is, it should've gone down by now and the Switch version should be $50 or so.
