Forums - Gaming Discussion - Coolest console names

While systems like the Wii U and Xbox One get flack for being poorly named, what game systems do you think have the coolest sounding names, and tell us, what about them makes them your top pick?

PC Engine

Megadrive

Nuon

Xbox

Every PlayStation except Vita. PlayStation is pretty cool, as is PlayStation Portable. Vita isn't cool because it doesn't match numbering/simplicity, and it ended up being super ironic because Sony was pretty determined to kill Vita relatively quickly.
Sega Saturn. A planet sounds really cool. Sega Dreamcast because it sounds otherworldly as well.
Switch is the best name Nintendo has had to date. Every console has some sort of switch on it but it's a brilliant name for a hybrid. Switch 2? Brilliant. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Atari VCS/2600 are both awesome names. Pretty simple letters/numbers but catchy and exciting for the early days of consoles.
Xbox 360 is possibly the only cool Xbox name to date because I'm not that fond of Xbox as a name but 360 seems to imply a full circle of entertainment.

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Master System. It's not Pretty and only works if you don't refer to it as the Sega Master system but Master System is easily the coolest name. Great topic btw. After that you really can't go wrong with the Playstation acronym with the number after it although some roll better than other the PS7 does not sound as cool as the one syllable numbers.

GameCube, first that comes to mind and describes the thing perfectly!

Vectrex is a cool name, it's a cool machine, vector graphics on CRT are awesome, wish I had one :) One day I'll find one in a garage sale lol.

Dreamcast
Saturn
Xbox 360 - I remember thinking it was cool they didn't do with the standard naming scheme, unfortunately they followed this up with the worst name (Xbox One)

The Nintendo Entertainment System. The naming and the U.S. design, even calling the software "Game Paks," were deliberate decisions to distance the NES from the disastrous policies that led to the 1983 video game market crash in the United States and make video games seem more upscale than the single-screen video games, churned out licenses like E.T., and of course Mystique's tawdry "Swedish erotica" games (which were neither Swedish nor erotic, just complete trash.)

MegaDrive and Dreamcast.

I like wild animal names: the Jaguar! the Lynx! but not so much the wonder swan…
