I don't think so. It's an evolution, not a separate genre. It's like comparing 2d Mario to Mario Galaxy. |
They are a different genre. Some of you really do not know Stylish Action genre at all.

I was ok with most of what the OP said but then criticizing the boss fights? I...know people can have different opinions, but those were amazing. Maybe they gave up before they got to a real one? I dunno. Thats a bizarre take.
There is plenty that is bland about it, but parrying a boss was pure dopamine.

You're very wrong. I LOVED it, God Of War 3 is one of my best games ever and so is Sekiro, Stellar Blade and Neir Automata. They are all the same character action genre just evolved.
.... Okay, I'm being a bit harsh on DMC. Back in the day DMC4 had me addicted for days and I loved DMC 5 so much despite the flaws that I played every mission twice and playing as Dante with SSS all the way is absirdly fun in DMC5. They are fun and weaving combos can feel really good but it's archaic now.
Sekiro changed the game and devs are wise to follow, even in indie 2d games like Nine Sols. The parry mechanics and are the best thing to happen to the genre since God Of War '05. The dopamine flowing is unreal, You get jaded to SSS ranks but never to timing many parties and not getting hit, it never fails to be immensely rewarding.
But hey, remember to each their own.

I'm right and GoW is also not in the same genre. It's just reg hack slash. Stylish Action is a very specific genre that very few games are in. Sekiro didn't invent Parry btw. Been in gaming a long time and even Metal Gear Rising does it but it's handled a bit differently. You don't even know what archaic means. You have a clear history of not understanding genres. You paint in broad strokes. You could not even figure out what genre Witcher 3 was in. Already proved you wrong and no use going on like this. Don't be a Zeldaring.

It's an ARPG. Skill tree. Open area segments. No style ranking. Side quests. Show me a level design in DMC or Bayo that relies on the older PS2 era where you unlock shortcuts. Side quests are not mediocre. FF7 Remake side quests are mediocre. Or Xenoblade 1 side quests those are mediocre. SB is more explorative. The literal point of Bayo. Ninja Gaiden. DMC is maintaining a combo and increasing a style meter—karma in NG. Letter grades in DMC, D,C,B,A,S,SS,SSS. Bronze-Platinum in Bayo. Complex combos. Stellar Blade does not have complex combos much like Nier Automata doesn't. The combat has depth but it's not modeled after maintaining a combo. Stellar Blades's reliance on blocking and counter is closer to Sekiro in logic. |
It plays nothing like sekiro, regardless of the blocking and counter. Move sets play out like the games i mentioned, but not as in depth.
As for ff7 remake sidequests, they were more varied and interesting, even if it became a repeat in other regions, the variety was still there.
Ff7 remake was a far better game, in every way.

Yes. The game wasnt much of a challenge. Prob because i played black myth wukong prior.

The game definitely isn't nier. How is it not like bayonetta or devil may cry. It has the boss fights, stylised moves, same kinda music when fighting enemies or bosses. I think it's a fair comparison. They just added some mediocre side quests. |
Because they play nothing alike. Are you sure you've actually played the game. That's the kind of comparison people make when they haven't played Stellar Blade and just make assumptions about it. I've played games in the DMC series. I've beaten all three mainline Bayonetta games. I've platinumed Stellar Blade. Those two franchisess playnothing like Stellar Blade. DMC and Bayonetta have some commonality. Which makes since due to Kamiya's involvement in both. Having "Boss Fights" and "Stylized Moves" applies to a multitude of games that play nothing a like.

Parrying becomes the norm, early on, and loses its appeal. I happens so fast and then your left with motion blur.
I guess the types of games played prior will affect opinions on the game. Nothing felt new or better to me when it came to boss fights. I've fought alot of better and more grand bosses in other games. Other people may not have experienced it.
DMC1 is king, DMC2 is turd, the rest had great base combat mechanics that are deeper and more varied than DMC1 but they lose to it in originality, atmosphere, music, level and enemy design imo.
2003 was a sequels rollercoaster. Starting with DMC2 being the shittiest sequel ever, followed by Zone of the Enders 2 being the greatest, and then ending on a bad note with Dino Crisis 3 challenging DMC2's claim! :D
