DMC1 is king, DMC2 is turd, the rest had great base combat mechanics that are deeper and more varied than DMC1 but they lose to it in originality, atmosphere, music, level and enemy design imo.
2003 was a sequels rollercoaster. Starting with DMC2 being the shittiest sequel ever, followed by Zone of the Enders 2 being the greatest, and then ending on a bad note with Dino Crisis 3 challenging DMC2's claim! :D
