Forums - Movies & TV - Sonic 3 debuts with 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, tied for highest rated video game movie to date

Still waiting for the first genuinely great game to movie adaptation. These have been just adequate so far. Will probably give this one a chance tomorrow.

Why bother, we now know that video games are infinitely better as TV shows than two hour films and actually work in that format.

Its bananas that 86% is the highest rating for a videogame movie.

Someone should make an arthouse film, the kind critics love.

Adapt Ico over 3 hours with absolutely no dialogue. Denis Villeneuve would probably direct it for free.

I would unironically watch and love that.

You missed arcane. It's 100%

We've come a very long way since the reveal of that original design. XD

IKR!? What a case the franchise has become!!

Also, just a tiny bit related to it: the James Marden based series "Jury Duty", which I found hilarious!!

The only thing I come back to (as far as video game based media goes) from time to time is the first Episode of Castlevania! The whole first season is great, but that first episode is just absolutely something else.

I kinda want a boss based on ugly Sonic in the next game. Even the Biolizard, Mephiles and Dark Gaia would be afraid of it.

Wasn't able to rewatch either of the other films for comparison but it was indeed another adequate entry. Carrey carried (ha) the film as usual and I wonder how the fourth movie will fare if this was his last appearance. If nothing else it was nice to see a new generation of little Sonic fans enjoy the movie.

As a lifelong, diehard Sonic fan - This movie was just about everything I could have hoped for.
Every character was captured beautifully, and Keanu Reeves was DEAD-ON with his portrayal of Shadow. And they perfectly encapsulated Shadow's relationship with Maria, which was the best part of this film outside of the 2nd half... For obvious, fanboyish reasons. XD

As for where the franchise goes from here, ohhhhh we're just gettin' STARTED!

After Sonic 4, which is clearly being set-up to be built around...

Spoiler!

Sonic CD, with the introduction of Amy and Metal Sonic in the mid-credits scene. Perhaps we could even get Heroes representation with Metal Overlord being the final boss, and if that happens... Please, Please, PLEASE give us "What I'm Made Of..."

After that, they still have PLENTY to work with.

For starters: Adventure 1! You can't do Adventure 2 and then NOT do Adventure 1. Especially since there's still a lot of unexplored territory with Knuckles' backstory, the Echidna tribe, and their beef with Longclaw and the Owl tribe. Sonic 2 established that it has to do with the Master Emerald, and one of the few things the Knuckles show did was introduce Pachacamac. So, they planted a few seeds there. If they ever do a Knuckles Season 2, well for starters, make it GOOD and make it actually about Knuckles. They could use that to introduce Chaos and he could be the big bad after Metal Sonic for a potential 5th movie.

They could also do a Shadow movie where they explore the Black Arms and introduce Black Doom and make him the big bad of Shadow's movie.

And as MUCH as everyone HATES Sonic 06 and that God Awful story... That's the one with the most potential for the big screen. For starters, one of the very few things it had going for it was Mephiles. The writing was terrible, but the concept of him as a villain, was awesome! Same with Solaris, Iblis, and of course, Silver. And they could actually make 2 movies out of that - Sonic 6 Part I and II.

After that, they can do Unleashed. And then, they could also explore the comics, maybe introduce the Freedom Fighters and give us Sally Acorn. Or the Metal Virus arc? Maybe Ian Flynn jumps in at some point and we get characters like Tangle, Whisper, and Surge on the big screen. Maybe at some point, Eggman comes back due to alternate dimension nonsense so that you can bring him back w/o having to back up the dump truck of cash just to convince an older Jim Carrey to do it again.

Bottom line: Expect the Sonic movie franchise is going to be around for a long, LONG time.
