Around the Network

I haven't played Fire Emblem Engage, Pikmin 4, or even Metroid Prime (OG or remastered). Any of those might be enough to sway me toward 2023.
Be that as it may, I still have to pick 2017. A little under 10 months of titles and still so impressive. Zelda, Mario, Stardew Valley, Skyrim, Xenoblade, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and so on.

2024 because I can actually play through my backlog now ! /s

In reality, if you asked me that question during the mid point of the Switch, 2017 seemed like a clear winner in mind, even though 2019 was really great on both 1st party and 3rd party content.

But 2022 and 2023 were quite the banger years for me like I honestly never experienced before since I started to seriously game more in 2015.

Both of those years have big reasons for me to love each of them equally. I voted for 2022, but I could easily change my opinion any other day lol.

2017 with breath and Odyssey

Around the Network

Unless Pikmin 4 or Wonder blow me away (I've played neither yet), I'd still have to say 2017 takes the cake. BotW and Odyssey was just too crazy a combo.

I'd rank them like this:

  1. 2017
  2. 2023
  3. 2018
  4. 2019
  5. 2021
  6. 2022
  7. 2020

2024 obviously. I can get all the games from this year plus all the games released before that. 2025 will be even better. =P

I can't really argue about the best year in terms of new releases because I don't keep track of those anymore. =D

2021 thanks to Metroid Dread

My favorite year for gaming overall was 2023 (surpassing 2007), but regarding Switch specifically, launch year was just incredible. I'd still probably go with 2023 though; it's hard to match Tears, Wonder, Prime Remastered, Pikmin 4 and SMRPG all in the same year.

2023 and it’s not even close. Got a new Zelda, Pikmin (alongside shadow dropped ports), mainline 2D Mario, Metroid Prime Remake, Mario RPG Remake, three monstrous waves of MK8D DLC, Advanced Wars, and…still so much more. They hit all of my favorite franchise in the best possible way! 2017 is a strong contender, but ultimately that year is carried almost entirely by Mario Odyssey, BotW, and M+R for me. 2023 had so much more: Similar highs, and a lot more of them.
