At least until PS9

Hey, I was going to post that, but gave up at the last second!

I love that ad, I hope Sony doesn't forget about it when the true PS9 is announced.

Hardware? We'll get a PS6, and probably a PS7. We might even get a PS8, but that's not as likely.
As a brand? A minimum of another 30 years, and more like 50 or more.
Even when they're done with their standard hardware, I'm sure they'll make some PS2, PSP, PS3 minis and such. And we might get some of these before they bow out of new platforms. Once they've stopped making standard hardware, games will still come but on PC and mobile.
Atari has whimpered for decades now but hasn't entirely gone away. Yeah, the corporation itself died and was reborn, but the brand never fully left.
Xbox will bow out of standard hardware before PlayStation, I think. They're so into PC and cloud gaming that I don't see them clinging to consoles as long, especially because they're not as popular as PlayStation.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Don't know, until the buisness model isn't viable maybe ? But right now and since decades now they've got the European monopoly and a strong presence in the Americas and worldwide. Unless a nuclear disaster happens, I just don't see it changing.

Anywoo, the only big 3 presence that would seem possible to vanish of the console industry in the medium term seem to be Xbox but even that is debatable

I cant imagine hardware lasting many more gens by virtue of the fact that tech isnt advancing that much that fast, and even if it does I dont know if videogames will tap that power, very few games take full advantage of the PS5 capabilities.

To kind of follow up with that a bit:

I think we are soon approaching a point where we will have tech so advanced that there will no longer be a point for console upgrades.  There will be a single Playstation device where different peripherals can be added to it for different needs and the same with the other console brands.  Basically reaching a point where you just buy the console or consoles or your choice and use them until they finally wear out and just replace them as you need.  Console generations may last decades instead of just years.

So the PS7 may be the last one, but they will continue to manufacture it forever, with only small changes.

I understand what you're saying, and I almost agree with it. However, people have been saying this for at least the last 20 years.  It hasn't happened yet, so I'm doubtful that it's going to happen.

Until Apple or Google buys Playstation or Sony goes bankrupt. All unlikely for now and the foreseeable future

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

OP should change to "How long will xbox Last?
As I believe their next xbox will be their last which would be great news!
Playstation and Nintendo will have another 3 more generations I reckon

How long until the entire world has lag free high speed internet without having to be wired? Until then there will be a core base that will keep buying PC hardware and consoles to play games on local hardware for the best picture quality and lag free game play. I don't see Playstation consoles going anywhere for another 4 decades at least.

VR will also keep benefiting from local hardware, preferably inside the device. So maybe PS9 will just be a set of lightweight glasses that can be paired with a tv screen for local play, instead of having the hardware in a box Yet that's far future. VR/AR hasn't even started to grow yet.
