Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Microsoft enters agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo

You can tell from the recent comments made by Spencer and other MS executives that they have some attitude regarding Sony for all of this. I say good on Sony for that. If you recall the Bethesda purchase, Spencer specifically said he couldn’t talk about where games were going to be in the future because the deal was not done at the time and for legal reasons he couldn't say anything. That was specifically said to deflect the fact he was taking future Bethesda games away from Sony. (Making them smaller) Now all of the sudden he can hand out 10 year deals to everyone when it comes to CoD on other platforms. I thought he couldn’t make arrangements like that due to legal issues? It’s because he was lying the first time around is why.

You see, when you don’t challenge MS when they make these acquisitions, they will take away these games from Sony or whoever else. They’re deflecting now because someone actually stood up to them and now they are scared as it keeps Spencer awake at night. He can blast them in the media with PR statements all he wants but the fact of the matter is all these extra concessions are because Sony stood up to them this time.

Earlier in the year, they offered 3 extra years to Sony and that was it. Now they’re tweeting in the middle of the night offering 10 years deals to everyone the night before an FTC meeting. So congrats to Nintendo and Valve for getting offered 10 year deals but it’s because of Sony that this happened. These are calculated PR moves and desperate attempts to get this deal passed.

You need to stand up and challenge MS in this new era. Otherwise you’re going to lose the Bethesda’s of the world and the franchises that were once on your platform like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc. “When we all play, we all win”

Sony can go get bent, lol.

They've been keeping games off other platforms for decades. Frankly it's funny to see them squirm now that someone else decided to play the same game they do but have more money to do so.

The fact that it took like 20 years for Final Fantasy VII to show up on any Nintendo system and FF7 Remake is still being blocked from releasing on XBox platforms is utter bullshit.

I can't imagine a single person on the nintento platform who would be interested in call of duty.

I'm a Nintendo owner and I'd be interested in Call of Duty. In fact, I used to play COD on the Wii and Wii U.

There are over 117 million Switches on the market, it has a diverse reach and appeal, and COD is a hugely popular mainstream brand.

Agree.

Much fun was had on the Wii and Wii U with COD, especially if you play the single player campaign mainly and local multiplayer on Wii U was fun with dual screens.

From my second youtube channel I had Black Ops 2 on wii u since 2012 somewhere in December

60fps was a key feature for Doom, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein, Nier Automata, and other games from PS4/Xbone, and those all worked fine on Switch at 30fps. COD was reduced to 30fps on the Wii as well and still worked and was accepted.

That was back in the mid 2000s though ... COD these days especially for competetive multiplayer really needs the 60 fps. Like yeah you could probably get away with 30 fps on the campaign mode but campaign mode isn't really the real draw of COD.

They could port older PS3-360 era COD games to Switch and have them run at 60 just fine though. Or COD Mobile.

Switch 2 can then get the more recent games.

To me this doesn't matter as everyone has the same handy cap. It may feel odd at first but humans adopt quickly, it will be fine after a few hours.

I mean shit we used to play online on dialup and that worked just fine. The lag was terrible against people on T1 connections in America lol but we adjusted to it.

Most gamers follow the games not the platforms, hence why we see swings of users between XBOX and Playstation and sometimes Nintendo when they get it right lol.

Do you think Sony would still exist if all the Super Nintendo and Sega users decided they won't get a Playstation because their franchises moved consoles?

Sony's response to this was pretty silly. This acquisition attempt is certainly causing good entertainment.

Sony's response was absurd. Its like they misread the announcement where it said "Nintendo Platforms". While it might be possible to port it to Switch clearly the next gen Nintendo console will be out by the time a game was ported to a Nintendo Platform. Comments about how poorly Call of Duty sold on Wiiu when the stopped ported to Nintendo platforms are invalid. Call of Duty sold decently well on Wii and the switch has seen a lot of M rated 3rd party games have success on it like Elder Scrolls and Doom and a bunch of others. Call of Duty on Switch 2 would do quite well and if they added cross platform cloud saves to it it would enhance the value on the other platforms because gamers could continue playing on the go.

If the game is of the same caliber as the other platforms (Xbox, Playstation and PC) in terms of quality, but isn't a simple back-port with downgraded visuals, but built from the ground up for Nintendo's platforms, then I say go for it.

You can't be on to many platforms, more choice is great.

Honestly I think they'd still be a market for graphically downgraded ports, the Switch has shown plenty of people are fine with lesser visuals in exchange for hybrid functionality.

COD got 5 entries on the Wii that were a big downgrade from PC/PS3/360 graphically, but they had their own appeal for those of us who liked aiming with a pointer.

I would be willing to bet it would garnish over 5 million players within the first week.

5 thousand tops. It would bomb hard on the switch.
