Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Shin Megami Tensei V sells over 800k

I was wondering why Atlus hadn't said anything so far. I bet they wanted to anounce 1m but in the end couldn't.
This is less than P5, P5S or even P5R. The obvious conclusion is that SMT needs to open itself to more platforms if Atlus wants to maximize the returns.

Isn't that what Nocturne did and still sold much less than SMTV.

...Sega's spoken up about it, so that's kind of like saying 'Oh, Pokemon was only talked about by Nintendo and not GF, so the game must not have sold as well as they hoped'.

...Okay, very bad example, but you get what I mean

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

I was wondering why you hadn't show up so far. Japan is not a fun topic these days I imagine. Having said that, SMTV is going to reach a million guaranteed. That is good for SMT as a franchise. To compare it to Persona is a bit weird though, SMT has been a niche franchise due to it being a dungeon crawler (and rather difficult at that) instead of a more traditional turn based rpg as Persona has been known for. The accessible nature of Persona should allow it of course to be more popular, in fact, it's a no brainer for Persona to open itself to more platforms so that Atlus could maximize potential.

Maybe, if the best-selling SMT isn't selling as much as the best-selling Persona, maybe it is time to sell Persona on Switch.

I like TMS more than Persona 5 lol. I like P5 a lot but enjoyed TMS more. Better Battle system.

TMS has an amazing battle system. Surely among the best Atlus has ever done, and Atlus is pretty good in designing their battle systems.

Not saying I don’t hope it fucking does well. But dungeon crawlers aren’t my thing, so you can’t count on my support to help this game rise to heaven :(

I hope it doesn’t sink to hell.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

With it being a dungeon crawler I mean past titles. SMTV is different. But yeah, the audience was different before.

SMTIII is total Dungeon crawl but SMTV isn't. It only has 2 real dungeons and one is mid game and the other is end game and it doesn't last long nor difficult to navigate. Rest of it are huge open areas to explore.

SMT is not Persona. That's like saying sales of Luigi's Mansion 3 are bad because it sold less than Super Mario Odyssey. Sega has said that they consider SMT5's sales to be good.

Speaking of Persona, imagine how much more Persona 5 could sell if they "opened it" to Switch, when it's more niche cousin can sell 800k in just a month and a half.

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023. (And over 130 million lifetime)
