Expensive first party software that is barely if ever discounted. We've had the console for three years now, and during that time I've bought three games for the thing because I have no desire to spent 60 euros for a single game, when I can get 3 or 4 physical games for the same price on the PS4 instead.

I'm ok with the hardware , don't care about graphics , retro games , NSO , lack of AAA 3rd party , Weaker online , no party chat and the list goes on , I don't mind any of that since I actually owned unique consoles like the vectrex and weird once in life studio 2 and fairchild etc, The only thing I'm worried is if I ever drop the switch the screen will break ? I think they are weaker than even any nintendo handheld ever created including the 3DS?

As someone who has kids, nope :D

I did have to fix broken rails and a broken r-trigger, the small button. But never any issues with the screens. Still, I wouldn’t risk it.

The weakest handheld is DS Lite, hinges break easily. The original 3DS also had issues with the bottom screen cutting into the top one, and hinges could still break, just not as bad as DS Lite. The original DS Fat, never had any problems with it durabilitywise, but it is an eye sore.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

How is the stick drift with the pro controller? Would that be a good choice for BotW2? Can you do all the motion stuff with the pro controller in BotW?

Not too bad in my experience, though I've seen at least one pro controller with really bad drift, for the most part it's much less prominent than with the joycons. I've been using my pro controller for pretty much every game I play on console or PC for 4 years now, including thousands of hours of competitive Smash and Ori speedrunning, and while it's had drift for some time, it's rare that it happens and it gets fixed by pushing the analog around and blowing into it.

And yes you can do all the motion control stuff in BotW, it even works like a charm for games as gyro-heavy as Splatoon. The only games I've played so far that I thought played awkwardly on it compared to the joycons are Mario Odyssey and Okami.

Thanks, I'll pick one up when BotW2 comes out. A fresh controller should last through a couple hundred hours of Zelda :)

I do like the split design of the joy cons, but they need to be a bit bigger to be comfortable for long play sessions.

Oh , Sounds good :)

As someone with kids as well, prepare for it to always be empty and nowhere to be found when you want to play :p Hence my desire for a console version. But the screen is still fine. The joy cons are a bit loose in the rails but otherwise work fine. And yes, it has been dropped a couple times :/

The biggest issue I had with it was the left joy-con losing connection while playing in TV mode. I had to put the dock closer to me to keep it connected. (I was sitting 12ft away at the time, playing on a projector. Too far I guess, so I put the dock in the middle of the room using a longer hdmi cable)

As someone who doesn't own a Switch but would like to access its library outside of emulators some day, I guess performance is the big factor keeping me from buying in right now. The compromises to image quality and frame rates are a bit much for a modern system for me. I was disappointed that the Switch Pro turned out to be the Switch OLED as the former probably would have solved these issues for me and earned my purchase. BOTW2 might make me look for a system with a busted screen that I could still run docked for cheap or something, otherwise I might be waiting for Switch 2.

Looking at other system is actually way more relevant than you think.

The problem is the bandwidth, that's the most limiting part of the Switch's hardware. And to reach level of performance when you can actually deliver 60fps in an open world, a mobile SoC still doesn't cut.

Yes the Apple M1 chip can now deliver 200Gb/s, but that's way more expensive than anything we can actually expect from a Switch 2.

This just isn't true. Tegra X2 which was developed in 2016 had double the bandwidth of the Tegra X1. So if bandwidth in X1 is capable of running a piece of software at 30fps then doubling it can run it at 60fps.

It is more than viable now to create a device that performs twice as fast as the original Switch in every aspect, and thus twice the framerate and 60fps BOTW2.

The math isn't that easy. For eg, the PS4 is 10x more powerful than the PS3, but wasn't able to run GTA V at 60fps.

I dunno, I can def see a new Switch where the games run at 4K and or more stable framerate, or even fps or 2K games running at 60, but an open world at 60fps at an acceptable graphic level still seems far from a technical perspective.

But hey, we saw modders running the Witcher 3 at 55-60fps at 540p so who knows.

I have said this many times already, but I will keep saying it whenever I have the chance to, because it bothers me so much: lack of controller options in handheld mode. I CANNOT, for the love of God, understand, that to this day, we have only one option of joycons from Nintendo. I cannot emphasize enough how much I would appreciate the option to have some type of "retro-joycon" where the analog sticks would be completely gone, that way I could play my fighting games or 2d fast paced games in general, comfortably in handheld mode. This is probably the biggest gripe I've had with a console for a long, long time.
It's a FREAKING attachable controller, more options should be an obvious thing.

Whatever is wrong with Nintendo for not adding folder feature.

I forgot to mention dedicated online server for first party games like Super Mario Maker 2. Do we really buy Nintendo Switch Online for P2P online service, just like with Wii U? I mean, the versus mode is just laughable with 5 fps in 9 out of 10 levels. Mario Kart 8 runs even worse online with a ton of lag compared with Wii U. The next Nintendo system must have an ethernet port, just like the OLED model dock.

And stop releasing games digital only and then physical a few months later like with Game Builder Garage in Europe. Fooling your customers won't work for a long time. I actually don't buy digital only games on release date anymore, exactly for this reason. I would have bought Cuphead or Ghosts 'n Goblins already, but I know there will be a physical version someday.

My biggest problem with it is, no standalone console version. The stand is pretty awkward, I rather just have a Wii-U like box I can plug into the tv out of sight.

I picked bad hardware quality from the poll since I had to send the joy-cons back for stick drift issues. They are also a bit small to be used comfortably. How is the stick drift with the pro controller? Would that be a good choice for BotW2? Can you do all the motion stuff with the pro controller in BotW?

I want a stand alone box as well but my reason is simple. Once the battery can no longer hold charge in Switch. It won't boot. Even docked. Modern USB design I don't understand. Why I bought a PSVita TV. I just want to be able to play my games well after that battery is useful. I don't want to hear someone tell me to replace it. I rather just have something where it's not a worry at all.
