Another dream sequel of mine would be Devil May Cry 6.
(I think I voiced something similar in another thread):
Since Devil May Cry 5 there are now 4 playable characters in dmc. And surprisingly they feel different enough in playstyle and character to make something very unique with all of them. Because this is something dmc 5 was lacking in my opinion. The characters were different. But the scenarios the devs put them in felt exchangeable. And after a while the levels felt too similar anyways. This would be very different in my dream sequel. First the characters and what they can do.
Dante: is cool, laid back, fun and very powerful with probably the most divers move set of all the characters. He is the one for the most over the top, super ridiculous action. Save up the craziest set pieces for him to star in. Also, Dante can be very open, emotional and his dialogue heartfelt. This makes him the perfect allrounder for pair-ups in emotional scenes.
Nero: is a hotheaded punk with a heart of gold and a bit of an attitude. He is the perfect guy to throw roadblocks in his way he cannot overcome alone. Creating the need for him to ask for help would make for good character development. And his frustration not being able to save the ones he loves by himself and immediately is just too delicious to pass up on.
(Spoilers for DMCV from here on out)
Vergil and V: V is part of Vergil. This might make Vergil the most interesting character with the most room to grow and develop into creative directions. If I recall correctly V merged with Vergil at the end of DMCV and they are one now, with V representing the more human aspects of Vergil. So, make him unstable in DMC6. Make him have a split personality. Make him really struggle with his humanity. Make him want to be good but not seeing the point of it. Make him try and fail to develop empathy for humanity. Make him doubt that he is capable of empathy and love towards humans, Dante, himself and Nero. -That is an utmost interesting one by the way - Nero is his son. Make him try to bond with him. Make him try to be a father and see how they cannot connect because Vergil is so removed from his human self. I swear there is so much potential here if Capcom would just take it quite a bit more seriously.
The plot:
Devil May Cry, the shop, is open for business. Dante lives there with Lady and Trish. Not far away, perhaps the same block, perhaps even as neighbors, Nero and Kyrie live in a small house, trying for offspring. Vergil comes to visit from time to time, trying to be present as a father but it is clear from their conversations that he has a long way to go to make past mistakes right and to really get in touch with his own humanity. Overcoming self-hate will be key for Vergil in this one.
There will be a new case for Devil May Cry of course. But this time you are not just starting out with the action. It is an investigation. There are several murder victims popping up all over the place, most of them found in their own houses and apartments, with weird rituals and occult symbols and all that jazz surrounding the bodies. What sort of demon is causing that? Now somebody, perhaps Dante (but not Trish, who is away on a separate remote investigation) is bringing back a curious item from a murder site for further research at the shop. They talk about the current case over a family dinner. Kyrie, who is for one time in the vicinity of the curious item, announces she is pregnant. Vergil leaves soon after, unable to deal with this human moment. Dante and the rest try to console and congratulate her and Nero.
Kyrie has been cursed by the mystery item and this is affecting the unborn child. Ever more demons are popping up all over the town and ever closer to Devil May Cry, the shop. Dante thinks something powerful is after him or Nero. Nobody knows yet that Kyrie is cursed and causes the demons to terrorize the city. Kyrie grows more distant, sick and angry. Until there is this full-on exorcist scene with her in bed like Satan incarnate. Nero cannot close his eyes any longer and is willing to try some more out there and risky methods to make her well again. Dante thinks that Kyries' unborn child might not even be Neros, but from a possession of a powerful Demon. This drives a wedge between Dante and Nero.
They need Trish who is their specialist in the occult, exorcism and stuff like that. Good thing she is finally back from her separate investigation. And she is distraught. She does not know yet what is going on with Kyrie and everybody is eager for her to learn. Trish says that as soon as this is done, she needs to talk to Dante, because she learnt something terrible while she was away. Kyrie is not responsive anymore. She gets worse and the evil in her more powerful by the second. Nero tries to explain that it has something to do with the thing Dante carelessly brought into the shop. Trish takes it in her hands and everything she hoped was wrong turns out to be true. She turns to Dante and says that she recognizes this. This is Mundus handywork and something he used in the creation of Trish. Trish was away to investigate the return of Mundus. And turns out, he is back. A third eye on Kyries forehead opens (Mundus being represented with three orbs (eyes) is typical for dmc). She speaks in his terrible voice: fall! A gate to hell opens, swallowing Kyrie, Dante and Trish, leaving Nero, Lady and Nico behind.
Nero is completely out of himself and cannot wait for a second to discuss plans. He immediately runs away to safe Kyrie and his child. We don’t know where he is going. Nico and Lady stay behind.
Kyrie is gone. Dante and Trish are alone in hell with now way back up. Dante and Trish coop-gameplay should be fun with many moves they can do together. So, they make their way through hell without knowing where it would lead. But a super quick and long camera take on the way ahead reveals what lies at its end: Mallet Island – yes, we are doing this!! Back to the castle, back to the marionets, back to gothic horror and genuine scares. And who better to accompany the player on that than the one character who set out to help his family first: Vergil. He did not leave because he could not deal with the situation but because he was the first to notice that something is up. And he is, after Trish, the second most familiar with Mundus. He had to check immediately and turns out he was right. There is movement and demonic energy rising on the Island that once more rose up from the depths of hell, this time larger and with many more puzzles and narrow corridors, hidden secrets and scary somber tapestry to feast your eyes on. Should be a mix of old places revisited and new ones effortlessly incorporated within. And then even whole new sections outside the castle. Perhaps even a town of demons with the murder victims being reborn there as chiefs and bosses your have to kill. We learnt previously how Mundus seduced them and what their struggles were in life. This should be reflected in what form and powers they have.
Vergil is now in V-form because his urge to help brought him closer to being human. He is alone. He is vulnerable. He is not fast. He is no jokester like Dante. He has perhaps only one weak demon at his disposal. This is a big survival horror sequence in the game. There is still action combat with V, but he is weak and grows weaker, while the ever-growing presence of Mundus is a temptation for more power to him. In the end Vergil should overcome the temptation to team up with Mundus or draw power from him.
What happens from that point forward is not entirely clear to me. But everybody should arrive at Mallet Island on different places. And backtracking should be kept to a minimum: only for accessing previously locked off areas. Even Lady arrives as a fifth playable character in the middle of the game with a prototype mech suit built by Nico. Lady’s prime gameplay mechanic would of course be shooting.
When everything is said and done, they will defeat Mundus. But Kyrie is still possessed and super powerful and dangerous. She should be a boss fight at some point. Dante should be convinced that Kyries child will be evil incarnate, and Kyrie is far beyond saving. So, Dante will be a boss fight too. And the player will first fight him with Nero, who cannot overpower Dante, crying out for help to his father. So next is Vergil with Dante again as the boss and antagonist. Vergil can successfully protect his family, solidifying him as part human. Kyrie gives birth and becomes herself again. Dante, who desperately tried to follow in his fathers (Spardas) footsteps and fight their arch nemesis, sees that there is no immediate danger coming neither from Kyrie, nor from what she gave birth to. Dante is sorrier than he ever was and vanishes. Turns out Kyrie has twins (Dante and Vergil are twins as well), one with white hair, one with three eyes. Setting up the sequel.
