Forums - Movies & TV - Movies that were panned by critics, but weren't really that bad

Reading this thread it seems like I should give Starship Troopers another try. I remember seeing it in theaters and hating it, all I remember from it is that in the beginning the aliens are unkillable but in the end they fall like flies.

The Greatest Showman, probably my favorite musical. Few movies give me such emotional joy. The character of the critic in the movie matches pretty good the view of critics.

Rocky IV - Over the top 80s cheese, but really good 80s cheese. A big hit with the general audience.

>> I wonder how Stallone feels now with the Director's cut changes after the Russian invasion.

Halloween II (1981) - I actually sorta like this one better than the original.

>> I agree, however I think it is now been dismissed from the timeline with the last couple movies lol. Which is sad because I don't think the last two movies added anything better than Halloween II

The Mummy (1999) - Actually I think this is better than some of the Indiana Jones movies and considerably more fun than The Phantom Menace released the same summer.

>> I agree, but was this one a hated movie? I don't know anyone that hates it. I always wished Indiana Jones movies got the bond treatment and they kept rolling them out with new younger actors. Had so much potential to be just as good as bond with all the stories that could have been told.

The Karate Kid Part II - Part III is legit bad, but Part II is a worthy sequel to the original set in Okinawa.

>> I agree, but without the crappy part III we wouldn't have Cobrai Kai Season 4 and 5 the way it was lol

Tomorrow Never Dies - It's not that bad of a Bond film.

The World Is Not Enough - OK, Denise Richards as a Lara Croft nuclear specialist is silly, but overall a good time.

Octopussy - One of the sillier Bond movies, but entertaining, even just saying the title of the movie makes you giggle.
>> I don't think I have ever hated any Bond films, they all had their moments. Will be interesting what happens with the series now knowing how the last one ended.

The Day After Tomorrow

Yeah it might be a bit extreme with the setting and stuff, but I think it’s really well done and offers a great story for the relationships they develop. It’s more about the people and how they react in extreme circumstances.

I've enjoyed most or all of Roland Emmerich's movies. They're all dumb fun but they are all filmed/presented in a way that's genuinely beautiful and there's usually just enough character and plot aside from the spectacle to keep me caring. I will never pretend they're high art, but they are to me what I feel Michael Bay wishes he could do but without any of the juvenile humour. (I like Bay's stuff, too).

I would totally agree with everything that was said about Willow earlier in this tread if The Never-Ending Story didn't exist that movie scored even a point lower with a 46 point metascore but I like it a lot and even more than Willow. Plus, it also has one of the best theme songs from the 80s. The two sequels it got on the other hand were really bad.
