Interesting that while globally RE8 sold most on PS5 by a wide margin, in Japan it sold nearly three times as much on PS4 as PS5, physically at least. The difference may close a little with digital, but since digital is a factor on PS4 as well and Japan seems to prefer physical, it's still a reversal of the global trend.

realy? i know only for UK

Ah, my bad, I may have read the UK split and forgotten it was just for that country.

Europe has a big chance. Sonyland( UK, Italy, East Europe, Nordics countries, and Spain) and have a better transition to Ps5.

USA I don't know what to expect

And now the million dollar question: what will sell more, Monster Hunter Rise or Momotaro?

We need to see legs of MHR in 2months before calling it. The way it’s looking 4mil for each seems to be the safe bet, but mono is doing evergreen status so not sure

Physical will be close but Rise should edge it with digital.

With Chris sharing South Korea, Taiwan & Japan Media Create numbers we can see the underlining trends in the past two CY

Taiwan Software in 2019 was Switch 51.33% while the PS4 47.93% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 59% while PS4/PS5 is at 40%
Taiwan Hardware in 2019 was Switch 70% while the PS4 29% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 87% while the PS4/PS5 is at 13%

South Korea Software in 2019 was Switch 63% while the PS4 was 34% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 81% while the PS4/PS5 is at 18%
South Korea Hardware in 2019 was Switch 69% while the PS4 was 27% of the market, in 2020 Switch is at 90% while the PS4/PS5 was 9%

Japan in terms of Software 2019 Switch 62%, PS4 34%, Japan 2020 Switch 75%, PS4/PS5 24%

Overall South Korea actually seems to be trending towards Nintendo more than both Taiwan & Japan, Taiwan software market share is at the level we saw in Japan in 2019, so this year it's likely we would see it being 75% or more in favor of the Switch.

This year the only PS4/PS5 games to chart in Taiwan are:
The Nioh Collection / #3, Demon's Souls / #4, Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War / #5 (Week 11), NieR Replicant / #1 (Week 16),

This year the only PS4/PS5 games to chart in South Korea are:
NieR Replicant / #4 (Week 16)

So overall there was a big restock of PS5 in Taiwan at the time Nioh Collection launched and Nier Replicant managed to chart in both countries. I expect Resident Evil: Village to also chart but we can see that the presence of PS games in the chart has further declined compared to last year, when especially in Taiwan you had Final Fantasy VII Remake & Resident Evil 3, Nioh 2, Persona 5 Royal, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, Yakuza: Like a Dragon claiming the #1 spot in the country during the week of their releases. While in South Korea you had at least a bunch of games charting in the Top 5.

PS5 game finally makes it into the Top 50 for the year, as Resident Evil: Village & Nier Replicant are able to get the PlayStation ecosystem to close to 5% market share for the first time this year.

Pokemon Snap is the other major title launched and it seems it won't have trouble outselling the original game, with a good hold in its second week.

The next major game launching is Rune Factory 5 for Marvelous which should allow them to get ahead of Square ahead of the Final Fantasy Vii Remake Intergrade launch.

Thanks for creating this list, it is quite interesting.

Shocking how Momotaro in 2021 still keeps the second place. Capcoms publisher share should rise, given now RE is fresh out the oven, Rise has incredible legs and MonHun Stories will still release.

I am a bit disappointed about the bad performance of Disgaea. Hopefully the western release will give it some more sales.

And question: does Pokemon Snap count for Nintendo or Bandai?

Stock limitation keeps Switch from growing the YoY gap more. To be fair though: last year probably also was supply constrained. Anyways, 2021 should grow the gap until week 29. After that it will be interesting to see if momentum in 2021 can keep up.
