Nintendo Hybrid!
It has been clear for some time that the mainstream audience represents the crushing majority of new switch owners. Mario Kart 8 DX is back as best-selling Switch game in some places, which is very telling. The big problem for Nintendo now is that this inflating audience is only buying 1st party software, ignoring 3rd party games that are not Just Dance. The closer Switch comes to the moment it will decline, the clearer it becomes for 3rd parties that there's no money to be made. So despite the large install-base, (big) 3rd parties might actually invest increasingly less.
I’m very interested behind which users previously owned a Wii, a DS, a PSX, a Gameboy, or an NES. IMO, these are the five major gateways for dedicated console gamers.I’d be interested to see if Switch is #6
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
Well, the Wii U had so many problems but I still think if they at least would have advertised it more aggressively, i.e. at places and avenues where it actually can be seen and not at some unrelated "backyards shops and TV channels", it still could have been a decent success. Look at the Switch, they made big commercials at the Superbowl and showed TV commercials at relevant channels during relevant times, among others.
There's a simple advise for marketing: "If people can't see that you are sexy, they will not know that you are sexy!"

Haha, tell that to Momotaro, which cracked 2 million in its first couple of months in a single country, or Monster Hunter Rise, the biggest third party exclusive yet which will arrive in Switch's 4th year. Third party support on Switch has been increasing year after year, not decreasing.
Three years later and your predictions of Switch collapsing are still a mirage.

The is something that is forgotten with the Wii was there were two expended market consumers. I know a few people who haven't owned a game system in years but have a Switch. I think it does a great job of bringing in people who have been left behind with higher price tags and longer (and more bloated) games. |
Exactly what I was thinking. The casual market, kids, etc.
If you were a fan of Wii, DS or 3DS, then you might consider a Switch.

Oh, you are back. That is great, give us more fun posts like this one.
Depends slightly on what "no other console" means.
I have every other Nintendo system ever.
I don't own any currently competing consoles, but I could hardly be called a "non-console-owner". ^^
Does anybody has numbers for how many of PS owners and Xbox owners that only has one console? otherwise we cant see much with this number!

3rd party games do well enough to keep coming in general. But its also fair to acknowledge many popular IPs have skipped Switch because potential sales aren't big enough.
I suspect carts might be somewhat expensive, especially large storage carts, which could be impacting support as well. Digital only is less potential sales.
Either way, a vast majority of users wanting 1st party games wouldn't be new for Nintendo though. Its kinda always been that way.
