  • Sword / Shield dropped off more compared to Momotaro post holiday, at this point its already half way towards a 750K Quarter
  • As we can see this Quarter's Software sales are already accelerating ahead of 2020 results with 500K without new releases
  • 2020 lacked any major titles outside of New Horizon and to a much lesser extend Pokemon Mystery Dungeon;
  • Ring Fit had supply issues and shipped only 250K copies in the Quarter - already at 150K with 10 weeks left;
  • New Horizon continues to be a factor
  • Bowser's Fury, Olive Town, Bravely Default 2 alone will contribute a considerable amount of Software;
  • Disgaea 6, BOND, Densha GO!, Balan Wonderworld ensure we also have a number of smaller profile games that can outperform the likes of Hatsune Miku & Persona 5 Scramble
  • Disgaea 6 is the first interesting title to look at as Disgaea 5 saw a huge drop compared to 4, so this is an excellent chance to see if SJRPGs can see growth on the Switch

Top 30 3rd Party NSW/PS4

  1. [PS4] Monster Hunter: World (Capcom) - 2.564.928
  2. [NSW/PS4] Minecraft (Microsoft) - 2.201.049
  3. [NSW] Momotaro Dentetsu(Konami) - 1.617.601

Looks like Momotaro has a shot at taking the #1 spot, though Monster Hunter Rise might eventually dethrone it.

01./01. [NSW] Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! - 107.064 / 1.617.601 <80-100%> (+23%)

Spoiler!
This is the only game on the entire list that was up from last week and the Switch itself is up from last week as well. I don't think that's a coincidence. This game is beginning to take on a life of its own! Even if Monster Hunter Rise inevitably overtakes it when that game comes out, if Momotaro's legs prove to be solid and strong, I could envision it retaking the title for "Best Selling 3rd Party Switch game" later down the road.

02./02. [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 36.009 / 6.553.618 <80-100%> (-20%)

Spoiler!
I did a little bit of digging and Famitsu had New Horizons at ~5.8 million units sold physically by the end of September, while Nintendo had it at ~8.2 million between physical/digital shipments. So, that would mean the 5.8 figure would account for exactly 70.731707% of the game's total sales. Now that it's at ~6.6 million units as of this week, if we applied that percentage here, then the game's complete total should be ~9.3 million now. So when Nintendo posts their next financial data on February 1st, New Horizons should be north of 9 million in Japan. Itching ever closer to that 10.23 million total for Pokémon Red/Green/Blue and the title of "Best Selling Game of All-Time in Japan."

I dont have the numbers in front of me but I believe Minecraft is the top selling game of all time on Japan.

Miles Morales PS5 sales are apparently 34k

Is that a 1/10 attachment rate?

The only way, new model plus AAA 2D Mario, Zelda Botw 2, and a Switch Sports game, in the same year.

Those are actually precisely the things I'm hoping for this year. Botw2 is obviously this year. A new 2D Mario game should be coming sometime in the near future as it is a MAJOR IP and Switch has yet to get one other than a port just throw out to temporarily appease people, so hopefully that'll this year. Switch Sports, even just a port of Wii Sports Club from Wii U, makes a ton of sense and is an easy pickup of millions (perhaps even 10+ million) in software sales.

Honestly guys I don't think this is a given. We really have no idea what they're doing with the sequel

The most interesting thing is that Lite sales are down YTD.

As for the PS5, it's on pace to have its LTD sales match the PS4's launch week numbers sometime during February. All those extra weeks of availability, including a holiday season, amounted to nothing in comparison to a delayed launch, except that Sony could drive home the point sooner that they really don't care about the Japanese market anymore.

I'm sure it would be more of slap to Japanese consumers to have an official delay versus being super supply constraint. Most gamers do not follow sales like we do. As far as they're aware; PS5 is sold out versus Sony hates us and has given up on the Japanese market lol

As critics predicted, Nintendo finally hit the cliff..... only they climbed it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

For every PS5 sold, more than 23 Switches sold. Switch has nearly 94% market share including handhelds and home consoles.
