the real question is, why PS4 and XBO are still in the graph of current gen (and Vita/3DS as well)

Isn't it time to remove them and have Switch/PS5/XBS ?

While I agree on the Vita and 3DS. The PS4 and XBO are still in production. They may be on their way out, but they're not dead yet. They've still got some tread on those tires. What I'd do is take out the Vita and 3DS, put the PS4 and XBO in their place, and then insert the PS5 and XSXS in those open slots right next to the Switch.

No matter how much PS4/XBO are selling right now, they are old gen consoles.

The graph literally say "current gen consoles", so they don't belong there.

People are claiming that the lack of a Holiday Title is the primary reason why Switch sales are flat in 2020. However, I believe the bigger reason is the lack of supply, it's still extremely difficult to get a Regular Switch for retail price, the Switch Lite Stock has been plentiful but clearly far more demand for the regular Switch and people are willing to wait for the regular Switch model rather than getting the Lite.

Agreed for U.S sales at least.

Japan supposedly has enough stock. Not sure about Europe and ROTW.

Damn MS dropped the ball with Xbox production. It’s more week over week but they should have secured more units

I believe Microsoft biggest issue was the S model being a weaker console. Historically, those haven't ever succeeded much.

Should have just done a disc less version or one with less memory.

We only have one main coder right now and he has a lot on his plate. We have plans to create a new graph. We are thinking of coming up with a few different designs and let the community vote on their favorite and/or provide ideas.

Yeah whoops. I blame where the data is stored. Since the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launched in the same weeks the two love trading places in that chart, which I copy and paste into my excel spreadsheets.

So there's still two weeks of the year left... wonder if the PS5 will be able to break 5m in that time. Switch sales are just bonkers right now lol.

According to this Quarter Estimates VGChartz has the following totals with two weeks remaining of the year.

  • Japan - 1.521.794
  • Mainland Asia & Middle East - 674.428

I anticipate the result between Japan and Mainland Asia & Middle East to actually end up a lot closer than what VGCharts is estimating. Right now at the very minimum I think Mainland Asia & Middle East have already surpassed 1 million for the quarter and probably closer to 1.25 million

Mainland Asia had seen huge growth in the previous half an year of over 150% according to Nintendo themselves and I anticipate the sales during the holiday to be very close to Japan. Every single week we know that Ring Fit and New Horizon continue to dominate the game charts in South Korea and Taiwan and this is the first full quarter for Ring Fit in China. Over 4 million of the Switch's Quarter sales will come from Japan & Asia.

Nintendo splits it's regions into Americas, Europe, Japan and Other(Mainland Asia, Oceania).

As we can see for the previous Quarter Other Region Achieved a very similar hardware result to Japan in 2019. Now for the final Quarter of the year Japan will seemingly be slightly up YoY from the early information we've gathered in terms of what to expect in Week 52 and Week 1 on Famitsu. While Japan is Flat the Other Region is likely to overtake Japan as the 3rd biggest market for Nintendo. With the main gains being made specifically in China, Taiwan, South Korea & other Asian markets Switch is expanding it's presence in. This is why I anticipate that hardware sales are severally under-tracked for Mainland Asia/Middle East.

Can't wait for the Nintendo financials, since this would definitely be huge news, as it's probably going to be the first time Japan is not one of their Top 3 Markets despite the huge sales.

PS2, Wii, Switch come to mind.
