Forums - Movies & TV - Johnny Depp asked to resign from Fantastic Beasts series after court loss, #3 delayed

Great actor, but he hasnt been in a good movie in like 20 years at this point. I loved him back in the day. Ed Wood, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, From Hell, The Ninth Gate, Donnie Brasco, Platoon etc. Good times.

Mixed feelings here. The Crimes of Grindelwald was a mediocre film - both as a HP entry and as a film in general - and Depp wasnt good, he hasnt been good for a while now, and yet he wasnt the main issue. The screenplay and pacing were not great, so theres a lot to fix going forward. His take on Grindelwald was really bland too, he was presented as the most by-the-numbers villain, which adds zero depth to a character that I feel should've been much more compelling. So I guess this gives them a chance to improve the character presentation at least.

Anyway, on the gossip side of things, I think its an upset - that Ambear Heard won that is, given what we know of their relationship now, if you even care for that kind of celebrity gossip anyway. So I think forcing him to resign is understandable, but weird. So should we assume that had he won the case he wouldnt have been forced to resign? Cause that wouldnt change his public image at all.

The Pirates of Caribbean series was fantastic, especially the original trilogy.

The first one was pretty good I guess.

As I recall, they brought back Steve Kloves, who did the screenplays for all but 1 of the 8 Harry Potter movies, to help JK with the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts 3.

I didnt know that. Thats pretty good news then.

Honestly, it was a mistake for him to go to court after he started winning in the court of public opinion already. I expect this whole situation will ultimately end very badly for both him, and Heard, if they don't agree to move on and let this story die.

So the guy didn't do anything wrong, we got evidence that the woman was the one in the wrong, but he ends up losing and screwed? Ok.

Yeah, I also find it ridiculous. He offered plenty of evidence that she was the one abusing him, including photos of damage that she inflicted and a recording of her admitting to hitting him and saying that she couldn't promise that she wouldn't hit him again in the future. So either they're both right, and they basically took turns physically and verbally abusing each other, or Amber is straight up lying, and people only believed her lies because of MeToo, and now Johnny, the real victim of abuse, gets to lose his career while she gets glorified.

People conveniently forget that both man and woman are capable of terrible acts.

I'm not sure which of the two options is the truth, but the possibility that it's the 2nd option makes me sick to my stomach.

Technically speaking, whether or not Heard was also abusing Depp wasn't an issue in the libel case - it was purely about whether or not Depp's behavior made it accurate to describe him as a "wife-beater". And the judge decided it was.

Thankfully he still has one last chance for fair treatment and justice. The case that he lost was against the tabloid newspaper who published Amber's story of abuse by Johnny, but he still has his personal lawsuit against Amber that will be held next year here in my state in the US. Here's hoping that the truth will out, whatever the truth may be, two way abuse, or abuse by Amber alone. If he can prove that she abused him and then lied and claimed she was the victim of abuse, it would be pretty shitty of the movie studios to continue blacklisting him after that, though sadly I wouldn't put it past them.

That is another point that is to lighten. Sure we have to preserve freedom of speech and press, but just to often press will make false stories and claim it came from "trusted source" (just like the rumors we get for gaming all the time) and that is enough for them to publish almost anything. Worse yet, if any news chain reports something all the rest will copy and paste without any verification and there you have.

This week on the judgement of a potential rape, the defendant was found not guilty. Basically the claim from victm and prosecution was that she was drugged/alcoholized and so incapable of agreeing. But forensic evidence showed no sign of any drugs or alcohol, no alteration of mind state, after the sexual act she was tapped walking normally with high heel on uneven road, texting with friends and all. There are evidence that both had sex (semen was found, and possibility of virginity loss). And since she claim she have no recollection of the time from some hours before and after the act you can't really claim "I don't mind because I was drugged, but if I wasn't drugged then I refused". When all was accounted for the defendant was found acquainted on base of insuficient evidence (basically in dubio pro reu). One newspaper run with the "rape in second degree" or whatever name USA would use for when you don't have the intention of commiting the crime, this charge doesn't exist in Brazil so they were heavily criticizing it, later when some small independent newspaper reviewed the full sentence there was nothing on rape in second degree, there was only the acquaintance based on lack of evidence. Of course when the original news confesed they invented it because that was to show the intent of the ruling, they didn't got hard hitted by the other media (that also didn't care to double check that original news).

I'm sure Warner wants to kick him for quite sometime already

We didn't even know he was in the cast of FB1, I got surprised to discover this few days before the premiere. It was an absolutely dumb move even by the very low Warner standards

Fantastic Beasts 1 turns out to be nice, but public opinion about him was not good, they still went forward and let him to play in the (very bad) Fantastic Beasts 2. This move ended not only being the worst Potter movie box office wise, but was received with lukewarm reception that really put the series in a dangerous zone

It's not helping JK Rowlling keeps undermining Trans people rights on her personal Twitter, and doing so actively teasing LGBT activists. Ezra Miller's was also filmed physically attacking a women in a street.

With a fandom mostly composed of millenials I don't need to say the image of Potter franchise is slowly being tarnished after so much controversies.

Covid outbreaker made FB3 (a movie already not heavily anticipated) got one more year delay, JK's Wizard World seems in a very delicate position now
