"You can't wake up one day and say, 'Let me build a game studio,'" Nadella said in an interview after the company announced its $7.5 billion cash purchase of ZeniMax Media, which owns several industry-leading game developers, including Bethesda Softworks and Id Software. "The idea of having content is so we can reach larger communities."

That's why Microsoft will consider buying even more video game companies in the future, he said, and why it continues to invest in its Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

Good going Sony. You've awakened the bear.

Hopefully Google doesn't wake up as well and for example buys Take 2 interactive... It will be Stadia vs xCloud

I think the Zenimax acquisition was a move to position themself against Google more than against Sony, so I am sure Google will have take notice. And in difference to Sony, Google is able to pour as much money as MS.

I cannot wait until there is only 1 company in this industry, charging what they want.

Hmm, pie.

First I want to comment on the raised possibility they buy EA. I highly doubt that. It is not so much that EA is toxic - everything they touch dies (really, even Bioware is dead, look at Anthem). There are practical business reasons. The most prolific EA-franchises at this point are licenced games. The licence holders will restrict strongly MS ability to do anything serious with such an acquisition. In the worst case they might give the licenses to someone else. Remember the licences do not only include all the sports stuff, but also Star Wars. The second reason is the business model of EA. Many countries are currently investigating gambling in games and might decide to put regulation on that. Such a move would seriously hamper the current cashflow of EA and instantly drop their value. But even if it doesn't get regulated - how well matches the income model of FIFA with Gamepass? Putting this game on Gamepass would be basically an insult, as it is not more than a shopfront disguised as a game. No, I doubt MS willbuy EA.

About the exclusivity of Bethesda games - I seriously believe there is no final decision as of yet. Sony and MS are about to enter their next generation. I think MS will wait and see how that develops. If Xbox fails and PS5 thrives, then I see also future Bethesda IP on PS5. If it is the other way around MS will not bother. If both fight for the crown, than MS probably will use targeted exclusivity of key IPs to boost their console.

But buying well established studios and keeping them xclusive to ur console is "anticonsumer".... at least thats what I heard here in the past, from a vocal minority, whn Sony purchased Insomniac and there were rumors of buying some Konami's IPs... smh. Lol. Funny how the story changes fr some people. Lol.
Regardless, things got a lot more interesting.

Yeah, MS buying Bethesda is like Sony buying a dev team which almost exclusively develops for Sony for ages.

Not the same. MS release their games across PC on both their own Store and steam etc day and date, they also allow you to play on mobile with xcloud.

Sony locks their games to mostly one platform (With the exception of a bad port of a 3 year old game and one or two small indie games)(Thats the reason why MS,PC, And Nintendo fans cant enjoy something like Spider-man etc).

Nintendo wont allow their games on anything other then their own system (Reason why Sony, MS and PC players etc never got to play Bayo 2 and 3 when it releases without owning a switch)

However i can bet out of all Sony and Nintendo fans at least more then half of them now have a device that can now play xbox exclusives thanks to xcloud..

Full on exclusives are bad one way or another but if giving the option of one of the big 3 buying a company id Sooner MS then Sony or Nintendo any day of the week as im not forced to buy their box to play their games then.

Remember, Sony and Nintendo  dont have PC platform OS like Apple or Microsoft. They depend on consoles or handled (Nintendo). That's why their lock in to their ecosystem. If you think Sony and Nintendo is bullshit by looking into their exclusives then why don't you use smartphones as an example where some Apple app only available on iOS.

It's about platform or ecosystem, Microsoft will win if Sony put their games on PC but not with Sony. Their revenue will be much bigger on their own platform/Service (PSPlus/Now/PS consoles).

These motherfuckers are fucking Pac-Man

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Well, I have to say kudos to Microsoft. I'm worried we'll see lots of acquisitions in the future, fragmenting the market. But this was a brilliant move and I'm almost certain I will buy a cheap Series S with Gamepass as my second console next year after this little nugget of news. The value here is great.

Next gen is going to be a lot more competitive between Sony and Microsoft and the Series S/X should sell better than the Xbox One line. Whenever Microsoft really feels like competing, they have the power to challenge Sony. They just didn't seem to be all-in during the last gen.

Hope they buy Sony or Nintendo.

well, there's 13 video game associated acquisitions there?

Is that better or would you like to come up with some other way to move the goal posts? Need a hand? I've seen plenty of others doing the same. I'm sure they'll happily jump in and grab the other side for you.

And how about Avowed, Fable, Everwild, HB2, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Battletoads, Gunk, and Tell Me Why? Are those part of the "Xbox identity" as well?

Another thing, so you're telling me that they recently hired some 3rd party developers to develop exclusive games for them, and went out their way to buy timed-exclusivity in a bunch of other games, but somehow the games developed by their own studios will be multiplatform?

How long have they owned Rare for now?. How long were Lionhead at MS for?.

Battletoads; who here remembers Tradewest & Masaya Games so fondly?, I'll wait.

The rest of that is just gobbledegook at this point. I know you're being aggressive here with the "chosen" lie, but I'd chuck that out the window.
