...I guess so, yeah. It just didn't feel at home among those other games you mentioned. |
True. But with the Wii U, there wasn't a whole lot to pick from so having one more worth-a-buy game for the year counted for a fair bit.

For me it's a tie between 2014 and 2015. Mario Kart 8 and Tropical Freeze equal Splatoon and Mario Maker. I voted 2015 in favor for new IPs.
2013. Lego City Undercover is a stunning game, like GTA for those of us that don't want our games to have sex, brutal murder, and cursing in them. Ass Creed Black Flags is one of my most enjoyed games of all times! And WWHD really brought to life what WW was all about. Fantastic year!
2014.
It was the year I got a Wii U. It was also the last year of the system that got consistent first-party support in terms of quality and quantity. You didn't ever go more than 3 months without a first-party game. I know that's a pretty low bar, but considering there were times where the Wii U went at least 4-6 months without a first-party game, it deserves to be mentioned.
Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U injected some much needed life into the Wii U. Also, this was the last year where I think third parties tried at all, and even then they were on the way out.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)
PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)
Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)
3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

It's still too high of a bar for the Switch

Hyrule Warriors is a solid 7/10. Not great but in the Wii U's slim pickings it was worth a buy. |
Hyrule Warriors is the best game on the Wii U after BotW and maybe Mario Maker. Not only is it really fun, but it makes great use of the gamepad, since it allows you and your friend to get their own screen while playing on the same map.
curl-6 bet me that PS5 + X|S sales would reach 56m before year end 2023 and he was right.

Easily 2017, the year it was put out of its misery.
2014 had Watch Dogs, Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Shovel Knight, and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.
And of course the best Wii U game ever, Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric.
2014 by a wide margin. MK8, SSB, Bayonetta 2 - it was truly stellar.
