It was the year I got a Wii U. It was also the last year of the system that got consistent first-party support in terms of quality and quantity. You didn't ever go more than 3 months without a first-party game. I know that's a pretty low bar, but considering there were times where the Wii U went at least 4-6 months without a first-party game, it deserves to be mentioned.
Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U injected some much needed life into the Wii U. Also, this was the last year where I think third parties tried at all, and even then they were on the way out.

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)
