Excellence is often rewarded even more in society. Seems like your perception simply does not line up with reality.

By an measurable objective metric, ratings post conference, views, likes, consumer sentiment, PS5's event was a slam dunk.

Yeah with a Playstation avatar I'm sure you have no bias. Yes, that's why modern music is so shit yet so popular and why people reward terrible Star Wars films. Awful Transformers films. Why Fartnite is such a hit is it's such an excellent well crafted POS. Why AAAAAAA industry is doing so well despite most AAAAAAAA games being a money-grubbing pile of shit. People follow brands, not quality. Otherwise, FFXV would be a failure. TLOUII would tank for its trash writing and laughable attempt at morality. Why Skyward Sword and Mario Kart Wii sold well or people buying those terrible NSMB games. Why modern WWE gets 2 million people to watch per week even tho it's trash. Why reality shows exist. Why people pay high prices to buy Supreme garbage. People follow brands.

Once again both Sony and MS were

All this tells us is that you're out of touch with reality. Data doesn't lie.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Update with the new PS5 event:

Sept Event | Reveal Event

Youtube (concurrent viewers): 1.2M | 2M
Twitch (PS channel) : 377k | 1.01M
Twitch (all channels) : 2.14M | 3.05M
Twitter (PS account) : 434k (<1 day) | 323k

Hardware reveal youtube views:

SW: 44 million

PS4: 39 million

PS5: 32 million

XSX: 14 million

XB1: 8 million

Expected smaller viewership for the secondary event but Playstation's metrics are in another league compared to Xbox or Nintendo.
The price reveal on Twitter has broken gaming records and will most likely go on to become the most liked gaming tweet of all time (it already is from an official account).

I am especially interested in the youtube viewing stats you put up for the PS4/5 & One X/series X. You can see that there was a huge difference in the views for the PS4 compared with One X. For the PS5 and series X, the PS5 is still leading in views but the gap is a gair bit closer. Thus reinforces the impression (IMO) that while the PS5 will will this gen, the series X will be considerably more competitive than last gen.

Thats just the views for the reveal video. Bear in mind, these videos can be run as ads, and so can be misleading. Its easy to spot an ad by the likes to views ratio over time.

If you look at the entire social media view, PS5's metrics are around 4x greater than XSX, and considering these social media sites lean heavily to American populations (to a lesser extent European), this does not bode well for XSX.

The gap is bigger.

With how well incredibly well the Switch is doing right now could this not mean that these metrics aren't that predictive? They'll have some predictive power for sure but I don't know how much exactly.

He did mention that AC broke records on Twitter and Reddit so Youtube isn't the only aspect. It's specifically his comment on Playstation's metrics being in another league compared to Nintendo's that stuck out to me and made me wonder how predictive these metrics are exactly. I truly don't know how predictive they are.

Well, Mario direct has more viewers than the latest PS5 showcase

and the latest partner direct has 1 million views despite Nintendo already deleted the stream version with ~450k concurrent views for US and ~400k for NintendoJP. If the stream version wasn't deleted perhaps the number is already above 2 million views for mini partner direct

Nintendo has always deleted the streams version of Nintendo direct video with a couple of exceptions like treehouse e3 videos and replaced it with the good quality version right after the stream version ended while Playstation just left it.

Streamed videos = more views inflated by concurrent views during the show and Nintendo deleted that kind of videos.

Something to keep in mind is the uploads of the PS5 showcase by channels such as IGN have way more views than the uploads of the Mario direct by those same channels so the difference isn't that large overall. That point about Nintendo deleting those videos is good and I didn't consider that.
