Though unlike on PS4/XB1, this is the only way to back up your saves, so it still comes across as shady to me.

Wait, what?  You're kidding?  That's ... interesting.

Anyway, "Nintendo Switch Online" is an odd choice for a name.  You'd usually want your service to form a stand-alone shell that could connect different consoles without worrying about name changes.  PSN is PSN regardless of the device being used, for example.  Perhaps that means "Switch" is going to be around for a long time?

I'm calling a "Switch 2 Nintendo!" slogan right now.

For the ps4 kindof. You need PSN in order for cloud saves to work. However, you can use an sd card to back up saves for free.

This list of NES games, sort of makes me very happy that I have a very hackable NES classic mini.....I don't really care about the 'online features'

Cloud saves are nice though.

I'm ok with the pricing though and 35$ for 8 people sound like a sweet deal if you can find seven other friends to share it with. Even between two it's cheaper than the single license.

So are those NES games free for subscribers?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Cloud saves are really useful so good to see them being implemented (finally).

Though i am not sure if the price point of $20 is good. The ps4 has the free games which mkes it worth it. Having said that the xbox 360 had the MP feature along with a few bits more and people didn't mind. I gues it depends on how well it is implemented.

I mean Splatoon 2 is one of the main Switch games I frequent, and with Smash on the way, it's a day one purchase for me.

Also, very low chance of this happening, but what are the odds that they announce more free games with the service (e.g. N64, GBA, SNES, GCN, etc.) at E3? To me the odds are slim to none, but seeing how there has never been Gamecube on the virtual console and bigger Nintendo games aren't on NES, but I could see more game reveals on different platforms at least being teased at E3.

I'm saying it is extremely likely that they will. at least in the long haul, since now they will get re-occurring revenue to develop the thing as a separate thing.

Nintendo... doing some things right this gen! (sure slowly) but wow good job!

I know there was a huge amount of fan outcry for this feature.

Actually, a subscription fee to a Netflix like virtual console service is something I’ve wanted Nintendo to do since the Wii. 20 NES games with multiplayer features added in is icing on the cake.

I’ll look forward to more games and platforms! =D

Honestly, I couldn’t care less about online multiplayer, that’s definitely not my sort of gig; something about it makes me feel depressed and unsatisfied, although I LOVE local multiplayer.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I don't see myself playing any of those games ever  again and I actually think I own all of them already, anyway. I'm probably gonna pass.

Just an FYI, XBO offers free totally unlimited cloud saves for everyone.

Something very important is missing here: communication with your friends. Nintendo took away Miiverse without bringing any substitution so far, so I'm basically can't communicate with some of my friends of the WiiU/3DS-era, although we refreshed our connection with Switch. it bothers me to no end, and this announcement still has no mention of communication. This sucks.
