What about positive bias, is that allowed or just as big of a mistake? Anyways, the question was about describing Switch to a layperson, not to this forum, right? I don't think it's the business of this forum to moderate how its members would describe things to people IRL. You might not like his opinion, and his opinion might be unfounded, but then that's a different matter entirely. |
As I said, his opinion specifically isn't the issue. Not to sound like a broken record, but one usually doesn't add in their own opinion when describing something to a layperson. Explanations are usually meant to be the bare minimum. pricing, games, and everything else is subjective.
If a person asked me what an iPhone is, I won't say it's "an overpriced phone with a garbage OS. It is good, but pretty overrated". It's a terrible explanation and gives an unsatisfying response. Why is the OS garbage? Why is it overrated? Isn't it just a phone?
You may tell yourself that everyone knows what an iPhone is, but what if your 90 year old granny with a Nokia asked you about it? A more appropriate response would be "It is a smartphone", there and done. If they don't know what makes a smartphone smart, then I could give a simple explanation.
In this case, the granny would be a casual gamer whose gaming experience is Angry Birds and Pokemon on their broken Gameboy. You gain nothing from inserting your opinions, good or bad. I'd be rather pissed if I asked for help from a tech guy and he starts giving his thoughts when I ask for an explanation/description.
Whether you think the Switch is the holy grail or rubbish, describing it to a layperson shouldn't mention the games, price, or anything else. As I said, it's subjective. "The Switch is a handheld and console hybrid which lets you play games at home and on the go" would be an example of a reasonable description. Could it be worded differently? Sure, but realize how no personal opinion is injected into it.
He can keep going on about how we're persecuting him for hating Nintendo or whatever. The reality is he put his opinion in when it wasn't necessary.
