Forums - Nintendo - Pachter: "I actually heard that Nintendo [Switch] is the easiest to develop for out of the big three"

Switch being a jumbled, incomprehensible, chaotic mess, confirmed.

Typically non-developer attempt to describe developing needs. "Easiest to develop for" is not so easy to grasp. Problems with development arise from many different facets, each can be different for each platform. More of it, I would expect for a new platform like the Switch these hurdles are not all identified and fixed like for an established system. I would expect that the new system initially has some more problems than the older stuff.

Patcher? Seriously?
People on video game media still hear that guy?....

But we all love Patcher here! Or rather, we love to make threads making fun of Patcher's either crazy or completely obvious predictions. Nothing in between.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I think it makes sense no? It is using mobile components which is supposed to be designed for easy development. Arm does have a simpler instruction set than x86 and Nvidia is making sure the GPU and etc has all the modern tech inside.

But remember that developing for isn't the samething as porting for. He gives a pretty great example about the 2 porting scenarios the Switch is gonna face depending on its power. If its powerful enough, the publishers can spend 5 million to easily port it. The publishers get $36 for each copy sold and say it sells a million, they get 36 million which = profit. But if its not powerful enough, that means they would have to make a special version for it which would cost them 40 million. If it sells 1 million, they get 36 million which isn't profitable for the publishers.

So yea, makes sense to me

Oh! Now thats interesting. I guess its good for them low powered games?

Yea if certain games such has jrpgs dont use most of the power the x1/ps4 has to offer then porting to switch should be easy. I fully expect switch to get plenty of japanese third party support but western, apart from old/indies is a different situation entirely.

If the switch can sell tons of units, it might get the typical cod/arsecreed/etc but the big ones like GTA, I doubt it will get.

Overall, much better situation than wiiU in all accounts

I don't get the reference. Was there something he said related to PS3 being easier?

Nope, it's just the usual "if Pachter says something, the opposite must be true" reaction.

ah yeah, I should've seen that.

So basically it's impossible to develop for like the Sega Saturn.....

His source is probably everyone's favourite uncle that works at Nintendo

Don't read anything into this either way. It's the best position for Pachter to put himself in for the next podcast/blog/article/whatever it is he actually does.

If the Switch is a success, he can say he called it.

If things go sour, he can state he was too optimistic in his assumptions about Nintendo, and talk about how he would have done a better job.

RIP SWITCH
