Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Nintendo switch (or NS) the start of Gen 9?

Start of gen 8

Yes 74 24.58%

No 112 37.21%

Gens are now dead 115 38.21%

Total:301

That this question even needs to be asked is evidence enough that industry-wide shared generations are a dated concept.

Never mind the arguments over Scorpio/Ps4 Pro as well. Never before have we had such divided opinions on what machine belong it what generation with what other machines.

It's pretty obvious that grouping machines into generations is no longer relevant, and I hope people realise that, because it's painful to watch.

Since Switch won't play WiiU games and WiiU won't play switch games it isn't a mid gen for me but nintendo getting early for new gen so gen 9, and it will be alone at it for quite a long time.

Yeah so like when Sega dc launched mid gen between gen 4 and 5 that was the proclaimed first generation 5 system although things where much simpler back then. Hardware simply doubled the bit power 8 16 32 etc and as DC was the first128 bit console boom new generation.

So I was wondering would you class NS as gen 9, 8.5 or just nothing are gens now dead with the ps4 pro Scorpio switch.

Woops I got the gens mixed uplease I meant start off gen 9

PS apparently some people are really mad 😂😂😂 because I made a mistake in the thead title but just to clarify it won't let me edit the thread title. I sincerely apologise for this shocking oversight and for making your day worse.

Switch is a 8th gen system, it'll be competing with 8th gen systems for 3 years, power wise it might not even be at the level of other 8th gen systems. Completely different to Sega DC which was followed by relatively ball park spec'd ps2 a year later.

I think it's a wrong decision to measure generations by hardware. I mean, OUYA is in the same PS4 generation, maybe it depends on the technology (at that time) to develop the system.

What puts it in a group with the future PS5? It could very well be closer in release date to the ps4/xbo.

I can't wait for people to let go of generations.

Isn't this their fifth gen handheld? Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, DS, 3DS, and now Switch.

LOL do you organisms really think Gens are dead.

Gens aren't dead, but gen classification is.
