Sounds like they are trying to decide which form factor/price point to get at.

The most important detail here is that it's the first official acknowledgement that the NX is a codename for the handheld AND the console. It's not speculation anymore. Nintendo's official client sent out a survey clearly spelling out NX handheld and NX console.

One platform. Two form factors. And gameplay "flows between" the two. AKA buy a game on one, play it on both.

If that's going to be the case, it's going to be very hard to convince people to buy both products. Part of what made the Gameboy line and original DS so interesting was because it was unique. The Gamboy Advance was a SNES on steroids in an era of full 3D games on home consoles. Metroid Fusion worked so well because it was so different from Metroid Prime. Consumers had reason enough to buy both products. If Nintendo tries to sell two systems that are exactly the same with portability being the only difference between the two? I don't think that's going to give consumers enough incentive.

They may lose double dippers but would potentially gain in people who currently own neither Nintendo devices.

For example, let's say someone is interested in 4-5 3DS games but that's not quite enough for them to buy a 3DS.

Let's say that same person is also interested in 4-5 Wii U games but again that's not enough for them to buy a Wii U.

This person owns neither Nintendo device because the individual libraries aren't enough for them, but if there was a single device that could play all 8-10 of those games that they are interested in, do the chances of this person buying a Nintendo device increase? I would say they do.

Except this has nothing to do with Nintendo, nor will Nintendo ever see the results. (well they might, but not in any meaningful way)

It's more likely just a general survey to monitor potential growth of the industry.

If NX is what we people have been speculating Nintendo don't need people to double dip as it would be more getting people on board to open an account for the unified platform.

Achievements? I'm in.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I'm not buying it. I'll see it when they unveil it. I still think the 900p thing is BS. Wii U outputs higher than that.

I agree, I'd be pretty sure most poeple who own a different console would currently love to play a few games on each of Nintendo's platform but dont want to party with the money for 2-3 games but if that was 5-6 that could be another potential hardware sold.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of it is true.

To be honest, deep down I kinda know Nintendo will find ways to fuck this up, they always do, aside from having the Wiimote miracle stumble into their laps they haven't made a competently designed console from top to bottom since like the Super NES (relative to actual market conditions), and they're still a very out of touch company, especially with regards to the Western market.

But I'll enjoy I'm sure. If it's about XB1 graphics at 900p/60 fps that will be a nice sized upgrade on the Wii U and will be fun for Nintendo games. I think the slide means the average/standard gameplay resolution is 900p/60 not that that's the only resolution a developer could choose.

Actually, Im not sure whether that 900p thing is that unbelievable.

It's as it is a stupid claim. WiiU can output 1080p/60fps (MH3U for instance), if the polygon-count is low enough. Obviously also NX will have games that can't hit the 900p or 60fps target, if they'll look better. So it is just a stupid claim.

More interesting are the streaming-abilities, a possible 4K output sounds good.
