Really, DLC is a smart bussines.

So when you have no actual argument you fall back on a sarcastic opinion that is the result of your lack of understanding in how the industry has grown and developed in the past few years?

Interesting.

I understand really well that when I paid for a disk I want to access to all of the content. And that's enough for me.

Locking deeper content away on Amiibo is one path but I think that would be a mistake.  Yes, there are certainly fans who accept anything Nintendo does but there are others who would be unhappy about such a practice.  It would be a risk.

That's the inherent flaw with Amiibo, though, in that, unlike Skylanders, it's not its own thing, but is instead designed to nudge fans of other Nintendo IP into buying them.  It needs it's own Amiibo branded software that fun and interesting as a stand-alone concept.  An Amiibo World RPG, for instance.  Perhaps we will see that on NX.

It wouldn't shock me to see them stuff Amiibo with more content, though, in order to make them a more compelling purchase for people who love a particular game, like Zelda or Mario.  More outfits, more powers, more functions, bonus levels, that kind of thing.

Or they could go all-in and do both, make them almost vital to the full "Nintendo experience".  That wouldn't shock me.  It all depends on how much they're investing in Amiibo being a major part of the future of Nintendo.

I hope they develope their own line of software and let it be free the classic games.

The part you apparently misunderstand is that buying a physical item with digital content on it in this day and age does not entitle you to anything other than that physical item, not the digital content on it.

Yes. Videogames are expensive and blocking in-game content under paywalls is bad, it's annoying if you can afford it and a very dickish move if you can't. If amiibos could get you the DLC (you get the DLC plus the figurine) it would be an amazing value, specially in games with more expensive downloadable content, like FE Awakening. You want Cloud on Smash? Just buy the amiibo, you get one DLC code, the figurine and the amiibo advantges. Also a good incentive to buy the  game, if you have the amiibo for the figurine and you get the DLC from one game. Why not just buy it and use both the DLC and the amiibo?

I have three amiibos, and I just use them as decoration. I don't mind them as long as the content is optional or purely aesthetic, but if they start to block too much content behind them, that would piss me off a lot.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I can't imagine them doing that.  Doing both is more likely, though I suppose it's possible that they could move away from the DLC aspect if it generates growth as its own platform.

Personally, I only have a problem with Amiibo if the DLC isn't available to purchase on its own.  Put those new costumes or whatever inside the figures but also put it up for sale on the digital storefront.

The only reason people buy amiibos is because they want to collect them, nobody buys them for the dlc because they don´t offer anything special, expect in games like mario party or animal crossing: amiibo festival but let´s be real those games are irrelevant and if all the content in those games is locked into amiibos so be it nobody cares.

Bear in mind that Nintendo are not selling any version of Amiibo Festival without Amiibos, so DLC wouldn't be the right word to describe the Isabelle and Digby amiibos in that game.

If I want to play with another, let's say, 2 characters more?

Don't worry, I agree with your premise. Amiibos are on-disc DLC, so yes, additional Amiibos fit that criteria. Just pointing out that while you're correct that the whole of Amiibo Festival requires Amiibos to work, they don't actually sell the game without Amiibos.

So even they know that people does not buy them for the dlc.

oh people know its DLC they just dont care.

Seriously did they really think that they would use it for that purpose?

Pretty much this, really.

Who cares what were they purposes. The one for Amiibos is DLC and they are going to look for that, but it's ok. Keep defending them. Let's see how this story ends.

hold the phone, there is no defense. I'm just calling it like i see it. I didnt want to be that guy, but screw it.  The amiibo thing for DLC was a dumb dumb decision. Especially since they have super rare ones that are hard to get. Whats the point of DLC if players cant even get access? But Nintendo has to be different for the hell of it. Instead of just doing DLC like a normal company they wanna attach it to figures and are perplexed when no one is using it as DLC. Classic

I think they were hoping it would boost HW sales and that didnt havppen.

They should be happy to just sell them period. lol

What is wrong with amiibo being bought for the figurine? Some of those are really well done, specially the cartoony ones. The money goes to Nintendo's pockets anyway, so what's the problem?

The problem is that people is in denial that Amiibo figurines are DLC.

So are Skylanders and Disney Infinity right? It's not like Nintendo is doing something that hasn't already been established as a form of DLC that some people are happy to pay for. Though I suppose if you are selling Amiibos for games that don't inherently need them, like Splatoon or MK, then you are getting into somewhat more murky territory that Skylanders and Disney Infinity don't occupy.

I don't know why Nintendo thought people wouldn't by them as collectors items, especially when they make some Amiibos super rare. But yeah, while there is short term benefit to people buying as collectors items because it's revenue and profiuts for Nitnendo, the strategic purpose of Amiibos is not that they are an end in themselves but that they are meant to lead to increased softwarre and console hardware sales. If they aren't actually achieving that more important strategic goal then their value to Nintendo is significantly diminished. It will be interesting to see whether they continue with producing something that largely amounts to collectible figures with no broader benefit to the company or whether they ditch Amiibo in the next generation in favour of something that will drive console hardware and software sales.
