Forums - Nintendo - Retro basicly just comfirmed a new game announcement coming soon!

If it's FZero it's the second coming of the Christ. Highly doubtful imho, we all know the reasons.

If it's Metroid Secundus it would be instant GOTF. Highly doubtful, I think Retro has turned the page. Imagine 13 years for a studio : 3 Metroid, 2 DK.... then another Metroid ?

I didn't find the bosses any worse than DKCR's, personally.

For me, TF's much better musical score and multiple Kong partners with unique abilities give it the edge of DKCR, though both are superb.

The music is just DK music, it's not all that great and it doesn't make it a better game anyways. That's another thing, the Kong partners didn't add much for me not only that you should've been able to select which Kong you wanted to play as. I mean if that's the only thing, I think Returns has a much bigger edge with better levels, more of them, etc. etc.

Level design seemed equally great across the two to me.

As for the music, we'll just have to disagree, as I consider TF's score one of the greatest video game soundtracks I've ever heard.

DKCTF does have production value. There aren't alot of 2D platformers that give you dynamic camera angles or Uncharted cinematic like platforming. It isn't just for aesthetic value either. One of the reasons so many people suck at this game is because they are not paying attention to their environments. DKCTF is a very beautiful game.

You might have me with Prime 3 with the motion controls (which is not everybody's favorite mechanism), but Prime 2 is very minimum in its uniqueness because it is essentially Prime 1. Even with motion controls in 3, it is still the same gameplay mechanic.

Prime 2 was pushing technological boundaries for its time and platform, and taking risks by being so dark when Nintendo has a family friendly image to maintain.

TF remains in Nintendo's platformer comfort zone, and isn't pushing Wii U's limits. It's still an excellent game, but it doesn't have that drive to push the envelope that characterized prior Retro games.

I will have to kindly disagree about that. I would even say David Wise out did himself when compared to original trilogy. My favorite is still DKC2 as a game and soundtrack, but DKCTF is very close to it with its amazing level design.

I agree about not being able to play as the other Kongs in the beginning, though.

Lol It was so funny on the giantbomb GOTY deliberation podcasts one of the guys mentioned the DKTF soundtrack as being great and they went to youtube and found like a 2 hour long video of the "best tracks" from that game. They couldn't find a single good one. Sorry, but a DK game's soundtrack just doesn't register as great in any way shape or form.

They're the same tracks with a different arrangement. Nothing special.

Three of the best single pieces of gaming music I've heard, and none of them are "the same trcks with a different arrangement".

That is a graphical aesthetic, though, which doesn't change much within its overall gameplay structure. Prime 2 is just as safe as Tropical Freeze which is also a graphical leap from its predecessor. I don't know if it pushed the boundaries for Wii U standards, but it is a beautiful game nonetheless.

As a platformer, it is a very difficult, hardcore platformer which escapes Nintendo casual friendly comfort zone from the likes of Kirby and the NSMB series.

If I were to put Retro's games in a favorites list: Metroid Prime= DKCTF> MP2>MP3=DKCR. IMO, their DK games are just as good as their Metroid games.

@blackjackk Not all of DK's soundtrack is remixes. There are different tracks. You didn't play this game, did you?

And about that Giantbomb incident, he was playing it on the worst sound system, lol. If you or the guys from Giantbomb don't like the soundtrack then that is find. Agree to disagree.
