Just like Prime 2 and 3.

Prime 2 & 3 had much higher production values for their time/system and were much further outside Nintendo's comfort zone than TF.

Prime 3 also had the difficult task of selling motion controls in a hardcore action adventure game, yet succeeded with flying colours.

Tropical Freeze was a great game, but it felt like Retro were in cruise control, not pushing any boundariers.

@Bolded

Which could mean that it wasn't the only project they were working on at the time. Just hopeful.

I certainly hope so. I can't get enough of their work, they've never produced a bad game yet.

I think DKCR was like Retro being Rare with Donkey Kong, while DKC:TF was Retro being Retro with Donkey Kong.

So retro being rare resulted in a better dk game?

*goes to Retro Studios website*

wow...

Haha they could probably get a fan to do a better jo for free =P

Definitely needs a revamp

It's understable. Game design, engine programming, 3D modeling and animation etc is all a piece of cake. Web design is on a whole nother level.

Out of curiosity, why did you find DKCR a better game than Tropical Freeze?

Tropical freeze was not that good. I mean it had way too many water/swimming levels, too few mine cart levels and it was just short. Also, the bosses were obnoxious.

I found it to be more difficult, better level design, overall just a better game. More novel I guess as well. Tropical freeze had a ton of issues for me.

DKCTF does have production value. There aren't alot of 2D platformers that give you dynamic camera angles or Uncharted cinematic like platforming. It isn't just for aesthetic value either. One of the reasons so many people suck at this game is because they are not paying attention to their environments. DKCTF is a very beautiful game.

You might have me with Prime 3 with the motion controls (which is not everybody's favorite mechanism), but Prime 2 is very minimum in its uniqueness because it is essentially Prime 1. Even with motion controls in 3, it is still the same gameplay mechanic.

I didn't find the bosses any worse than DKCR's, personally.

For me, TF's much better musical score and multiple Kong partners with unique abilities give it the edge of DKCR, though both are superb.
