Forums - Nintendo - Retro basicly just comfirmed a new game announcement coming soon!

That is a graphical aesthetic, though, which doesn't change much within its overall gameplay structure. Prime 2 is just as safe as Tropical Freeze which is also a graphical leap from its predecessor. I don't know if it pushed the boundaries for Wii U standards, but it is a beautiful game nonetheless.

As a platformer, it is a very difficult, hardcore platformer which escapes Nintendo casual friendly comfort zone from the likes of Kirby and the NSMB series.

If I were to put Retro's games in a favorites list: Metroid Prime= DKCTF> MP2>MP3=DKCR. IMO, their DK games are just as good as their Metroid games.

In Prime 2 (which was also brutally difficult) Retro pushed the envelope, in terms of not just graphical fidelity, but immersion and atmosphere.

Reduce TF to DKCR levels of graphical polish and it could be done on the Wii. Again, it's a great game, one of my favourites of last year, but it didn't have the ambition to see how far the hardware could be pushed or how far outside Nintendo's comfort zone it could venture. It played it safe.

Reduce Prime 2 to Perfect Dark level of graphical polish and it could be done on the N64.

@blackjackk Not all of DK's soundtrack is remixes. There are different tracks. You didn't play this game, did you?

And about that Giantbomb incident, he was playing it on the worst sound system, lol. If you or the guys from Giantbomb don't like the soundtrack then that is find. Agree to disagree.

Don't really see the point in arguing about the soundtrack of most games.  Sometimes a soundtrack is just bad or mediocre, but most of the time it's a subjective thing.  I can see people not liking DK soundtracks and I can see people loving it, same with most videogame soundtracks.

Anyway, Eternal Darkness Remaster...or something new.  Raven Blade looked okay I guess, but what exactly about the gameplay and game itself made it special?

Welcome to every part of every fucking game and yet we argue about them all the time =P

Stuff like Quadraxis or the Sanctuary Fortress? I'm not so sure.

''Reduce TF to DKCR levels''? You could say the same for Prime 2 and 1. Sure they are on the same system, but the point still stands. You are selling TF's graphics short. Retro said they couldn't use the dynamic camera angles because of the Wii's limitations so you are wrong about it being done on the Wii.

Most of Nintendo's 2D platformers are easy. So I am dumbfounded that you keep saying it is playing it safe which is not entirely true. The difficulty and the cinematic platforming camera angles are examples of them going out of Nintendo's comfort zone. You might say the dynamic camera angles aren't special, but for a 2D platformer it kind of is.

I agree. He is saying they are the same tracks from past games with different arrangements which is not true.

Raven Blade! Fingers crossed.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I'm sure Wii U's power made it easier, but I don't buy that it would be impossible on Wii. TF is the first Retro game that doesn't push the limits of its system.

It's playing it safe compared to the Prime trilogy, even if not compared to NSMBU.

They are two completely different series to compare. If it was playing it safe compared to the MP trilogy, we would've had Donkey Kong Prime (which would be awesome IMO). The fact that Retro came out of their comfort zone to make DKCR, a genre they are not used to and a platformer that is different from Nintendo's other 2D platformers, should really say something.

It is playing it safe when compared to DKCR, but I don't see that being a bad thing. Most sequels play it safe for the most part.
