That is a graphical aesthetic, though, which doesn't change much within its overall gameplay structure. Prime 2 is just as safe as Tropical Freeze which is also a graphical leap from its predecessor. I don't know if it pushed the boundaries for Wii U standards, but it is a beautiful game nonetheless.

As a platformer, it is a very difficult, hardcore platformer which escapes Nintendo casual friendly comfort zone from the likes of Kirby and the NSMB series.

If I were to put Retro's games in a favorites list: Metroid Prime= DKCTF> MP2>MP3=DKCR. IMO, their DK games are just as good as their Metroid games.

In Prime 2 (which was also brutally difficult) Retro pushed the envelope, in terms of not just graphical fidelity, but immersion and atmosphere.

Reduce TF to DKCR levels of graphical polish and it could be done on the Wii. Again, it's a great game, one of my favourites of last year, but it didn't have the ambition to see how far the hardware could be pushed or how far outside Nintendo's comfort zone it could venture. It played it safe.

Reduce Prime 2 to Perfect Dark level of graphical polish and it could be done on the N64.
