Forums - Nintendo - Retro basicly just comfirmed a new game announcement coming soon!

They are two completely different series to compare. If it was playing it safe compared to the MP trilogy, we would've had Donkey Kong Prime (which would be awesome IMO). The fact that Retro came out of their comfort zone to make DKCR, a genre they are not used to and a platformer that is different from Nintendo's other 2D platformers, should really say something.

It is playing it safe when compared to DKCR, but I don't see that being a bad thing. Most sequels play it safe for the most part.

DKCR was less safe,  I agree, cos it was their platfformer, and it was somewhat ambitious by Wii standards, where TF isn't that ambitious for Wii U level hardware; hardware that can produce games like Xenoblade Chronicles X and the new Zelda.

Reduce Prime 2 to Perfect Dark level of graphical polish and it could be done on the N64.

Stuff like Quadraxis or the Sanctuary Fortress? I'm not so sure.

Why not? Bug spider like bosses have been done long before Prime 2 and what is so special about Sanctuary Fortress that makes it impossible to be downgraded onto N64?

Some of the areas were pretty big/complex by GCN standards and had quit a few enemies/entities at once.

Ok so slightly smaller area with a few less enemies and lower quality graphics and bam it's an N64 game.

Yes, tecnically less ambitious. Since many developers had problem switching form SD to HD development I think DKCTF also served them as a training, I'm confident their next games will be more ambitious.

If its about graphical compatibilities, then perhaps sure. But alluding to DKCTF not being ambitious elsewhere, it is really a crime against the hardworking guys at Retro. I still think you are selling it too short graphically.

In a hypothetical scenario, how would many of you feel if they made a new DK, whether it is 2D or 3D, and it's the best graphically and ''ambitious'' (meaning unique) looking game on the Wii U? Would you guys still be upset they worked on f*****g Donkey Kong instead of Metroid?

I personally would be upset if they made another 2D DK, whether it's graphicallly inducing or not, instead of a new Metroid Prime, 3D DK, or new IP.

They have been hiring for years now (source: gamasutra), I expect their new game around e3 this year. (ND first look though)

I just want them to push boundaries like they did in the past. Metroid Prime stunned the gaming world with its immersive and atmospheric evocation of an alien world, it was like nothing we'd seen before. I want them to do something like that again.
