Prime 2 was pushing technological boundaries for its time and platform, and taking risks by being so dark when Nintendo has a family friendly image to maintain. TF remains in Nintendo's platformer comfort zone, and isn't pushing Wii U's limits. It's still an excellent game, but it doesn't have that drive to push the envelope that characterized prior Retro games. |
That is a graphical aesthetic, though, which doesn't change much within its overall gameplay structure. Prime 2 is just as safe as Tropical Freeze which is also a graphical leap from its predecessor. I don't know if it pushed the boundaries for Wii U standards, but it is a beautiful game nonetheless.
As a platformer, it is a very difficult, hardcore platformer which escapes Nintendo casual friendly comfort zone from the likes of Kirby and the NSMB series.
If I were to put Retro's games in a favorites list: Metroid Prime= DKCTF> MP2>MP3=DKCR. IMO, their DK games are just as good as their Metroid games.
