Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: Next Mario Will Most Likely Be On Nintendo’s Next Console

Yeah Miyamoto is only saying that a new take on Mario probably won't happen on the Wii U, so my hopes of an open world evolution of say SM64, with the full Mushroom Kingdom and entire Mario world seamlessly integrated probably won't come to Wii U, but that doesn't mean Wii U can't get it's proper 3D Mario release.

It's highly doubtful that the Wii U will only have a 5 year lifespan, hell 6 years at minimum would be a good bet, so we probably won't hear anything about the next Nintendo console until E3 2017, so 8 years without a mainline Mario release on a Nintendo home console is what people are saying when they say that Wii U won't get a main 3D Mario title, which is a ridiculous notion.
Personally I can't class SM3DW as that big Mario release that Wii U deserves, it's a stop gap, essentially a port of the 3DS game, with some extra additions, not a proper 3D Mario game made to take advantage of the features of the Wii U like SM64 was for the N64, Sunshine was for Gamecube or Galaxy 1 & 2 were for the Wii.

Hell I wouldn't be shocked if we see another Zelda release after The Legend of Zelda U comes out, even N64 (Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask) and Gamecube (Twilight Princess and Wind Waker) had 2 mainline Zelda games.
Wii had a port of Twilight Princess and got Skyward Sword as it's mainline Zelda games.

I suspect we'll get an announcement of the next Mario at E3 2015, to release in 2016 or 2017, along with Metroid, maybe a Wave Race or F-Zero and some new IPs.

How in the world can u classify 3D World as an updated port, have u even played it?

The game has about 100 or so completely original levels, 4 player simultaneous multiplayer, Captain Toad side quests, brand new bosses, a handful of never before seen power-ups.

If u don't like the game or it didn't live up to ur expectations that completely fine but to say it's essentially an updated port is an incredibly stupid comment.

I stopped reading right there. I question if you've played the game because im 99% sure you have not.

No I haven't played it, but that doesn't make my points irrelevant, I am perfectly within my rights on this board to voice an opinion based on what I know about a game.

I've read up plenty to know that 3D World isn't in the same league as SM64, the Galaxy games or even Sunshine was for their home platforms at the time.

3D Land is very similar to 3D world, there may be original levels designed for the Wii U, with prettier assets and of course the addition of the cat suits for added gameplay value, but it's not that all out, big Mario game to take advantage of the Wii U's features.

I'm saying I think the Wii U deserves a Mario game that will be on the same level of development as The Legend of Zelda will be.

The styling is very similar to 3D land, maybe calling it a port was a poor use of words, but I simply meant that I don't think 3D World is a good enough attempt for a mainline 3D Mario title.

I'm sure it's a fun game, I haven't played it, nor did I claim to have played it and I will buy it when I get a Wii U next year, along with Zelda, Starfox, Splatoon amongst many other games that I consider a great complement to an excellent exclusive library on the system.

Maybe remake would have been a better word to describe 3D World compared to Land, basically I'm saying that I don't consider 3D World to be Wii U's SM64, Sunshine or Galaxy 1/2. I think the platform deserves the same kind of treatment for it's big Mario release as those titles had on N64, Gamecube and Wii.

Maybe Nintendo sees things differently, but as a Nintendo fan I think it would be a shame if Wii U didn't at least get another 3D Mario title that at least tries to be on the level of the main releases on past Nintendo platforms.

I didn't mean to offend anyone that loves 3D World this much, my apologies.

Called it.

This is to be expected. Yoshiaki Koizumi said they were working on the next 3D Mario, but wasn't sure it would be on Wii U. It's probably at least 2 years away. It would only make sense to put some extra effort into it and make it the kick-ass launch title that the next console needs.

No, he wasn't allowed to talk about his project.

Just like we aren't allowed to know what Retro Studios is working on.

No, he explicitly said he wasn't sure what system it would end up on. He said if it was on Wii U he would like to use the features more.

Ya there is nothing wrong with wanting Nintendo to make a Mario 64/Galaxy style game on Wii U, I just had a problem with u using updated port to describe the game, even remake is a poor choice of word, saying its a sequel to 3D Land however is a completely acceptable description. They cerainly have their similarities such as artstyle, level design and game mechanics but it can't possibly be labeled port/remake/remaster because the game features all completely brand new levels and story, that by definition makes it it's own game. That would be the equivalent of saying Halo 5 is an updated port of Halo 4 or that Uncharted 4 is an updated port of Uncharted 3 because they share the same artstyle and gameplay as their predeccessors.

But seriously u should play the game before commenting on it, yes it is similar to 3D Land but like 10x bigger scale. Honestly it's like a perfect blend of 3D Land & Mario Galaxy. Maybe that's not ur cup of tea, but still an excellent game in its own right. Moral of the story, use the correct terminology to describe games

3D world was good but more like a fan service and a better 3D land than a console defining experience.

Or did I'm just getting my hopes too high after Mario Galaxy?

I'd say both! 3D World was still a very fun game, and much better than Sunshine if you ask me!

I hope this next Gen Nintendo Console will be at least 3 times more powerful than PS4.  End of 2016 would be perfect to be released, with a killer application like a New Mario.   Considering next Playstation and XBox will probably be released in Nov 2018/19, the new Nintendo console will have the best multiplatform games for 2-3 years,  and because of the far bigger user base by the time the new consoles will be released in Nov 2018/2019, developers/publishers will continue to FULLY support the Nintendo console till the end of its gen.  Nintendo release a New Console by the end of 2016, with a GPU capable of 6-8 teraflops and 16GB of Total System Ram !  A new Mario will be the Killer Application at Launch, and it must be huge, marvellous, a revolution !

I agree the wording doesn't explicitly mean we won't see another Mario game on WiiU, but it does make me feel less confident we'll see a new 3D Mario adventure in the 64/Sunshine/Galaxy series until the next console. Which is too bad, I want to play a game like that again.

3D World is an awesome game, and even though I think it's better than Sunshine, the game together with 3D Land is really it's own side-series that blends the 2D series and the 'proper' 3D series together. It isn't on the same level of ambition, the same scope, as Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy were. Those were groundbreaking titles and pushed boundaries for both their consoles and gaming in general.
