AC4 ran on a last gen engine as well. The same they used for all last gen games. Porting rogue to next gen shouldn't be harder than porting AC4. In fact it should be easier since it looks like a smaller game with reused assets.

Oh no, porting it would be easy. The backlash they would face from PS4/One users for the game looking like crap next to Unity on the other hand...

Ubisoft knows that the vast majority of PS4/One user own a 360/PS3/PC anyway, so it's not like they think they will lose sales by releasing it on current-gen. It's more the public outcry they don't want to face.

You mean the same backlash they got because AC4 looked like crap on next gen?

oh wait. There was no backlash. That's weird.

I didn't know there was gonna be 2 of them. Is it the same game? If it's two separate games, I don't get why anyone is bitching about it.

2 completely seperate games. Rogue is set during the 7 Years War where you play as a Templar, Unity is set in Paris during the French Revolution. Unity was built ground-up for current-gen, since people complained that Black Flag was held back by previous gen consoles, while Rogue was built on the Black Flag engine in order to not alienate last gen completely. I actually thought it was a great idea and win-win since most PS4/One users already own a PS3 or 360, but now Ubisoft is getting slammed for it by tons of people and I'm not sure why.

No, people are saying it's stupid because they didn't release it on current gen as well. They did it with Black Flag so they should have no problem.

I'm pretty sure an "AC Rogue HD Definitive Edition" will be released next spring for PS4 + XBO + PC.

People noticed the ways the engine was held back by previous gens. I remember seeing threads about people complaining about it being held back.

And it might not look bad, but it would pale in comparison to an AC developed ground-up for current-gen systems. People would complain and ask why Rogue sucks so much compared to Unity, when they are supposed to appeal to two different groups.

Who knows, judging by current trends, we'll probably see a remastered version of Rogue down the road anyway.

They are 2 different games, though there are certainly suspicions that some content is being re-used from III and maybe IV

But the frustration is that I have to go back to my PS3, especially as it comes out a month after I get Unity for my PS4

Both games were designed for different hardware to be the best possible. If Ubisoft released it on current gen, people would bitch and moan about how how the graphics don't compare to the graphics in Unity (which was built ground-up for current-gen), and call it a cash-grab anyway.

Ubisoft just can't win.

They aren't bringing Rogue to 8th gen because it would be odd to release two AC games on the same console just weeks from each other.

Rogue will likely be recycling resources from ACIV, so that feels like a cash grab. But the series has felt like a cash grab for years now.

Puting a game on 7th gen and 8th gen seems less excessive. A remastered version of Rogue will come to 8th gen eventually.

From the ground up, huh.

"Ugh I want companies to stop making games for last gen so that current gen games can really be focused on and have great graphics"

*Ubisoft makes 2 different games for each gen consoles, essentially solving that problem*

"Ugh what a cash grab, can't believe they made two games at the same time"
